Indian culture can be very complicated.What I've gathered from speaking to a few Indian friends of mine is that many Indians have a sort of inferiority complex for a few different historical reasons. British rule seems to be particularly obnoxious; high class Indians sort of stick to a lot of British customs but at the same time dislike that this cultural influence is foreign, for which they're sometimes shamed by more traditional Indians.
