>Open source is entirely voluntary
>Communism isn't voluntary.

>Open source relies heavily on property rights and copyright law.
>Licenses like GPL, MIT, and Apache only work because developers own their code and can choose how to license it.
>Communism seeks to abolish private property. A fundamental contradiction.

>Open source exists within capitalism, not as an alternative to it.
>Companies like Red Hat, Microsoft, and Google profit from open source.

>No central authority deciding what software gets built, how resources are allocated, or what problems to solve.
>Projects emerge organically based on individual interests and needs.
>Communist systems rely on centralized planning and coordination.

>Multiple projects can coexist solving similar problems.
>Users can fork projects, choose alternatives, or start competing projects.
>Fundamentally competitive and pluralistic, not collectivist.

>Contributors are motivated by reputation building, learning, career advancement, solving personal problems, and sometimes direct payment; all market-based or individual incentives.
>Communist systems attempted to replace individual incentives with collective ones, which historically proved problematic.

>Contributors get personal credit, build individual reputations, and own their work (even if freely licensed).
>Communist ideology emphasizes the collective over individual achievement.

>Superficial similarities around "free" and "sharing", open source is a voluntary gift economy operating within capitalism and driven by the free market.

Open source literally depends on copyright law and private ownership of code.
This only works when developers own their work and choose to license it freely.
Calling it communism is like calling a potluck dinner a socialist revolution.
It's voluntary collaboration within capitalism, not an alternative to it.
Congrats, you've compared a thing to its exact opposite.
Also, Red Hat's shareholders would like a word

People contribute to opensource, only for the chance to gain some visibility and get hired. Still, better than linkedin, because it's plain garbage.

can you clone food and housing?

In a communist society, you can't even fork the food, because there is none.

the purpose of communism is to say "the man who grows a potato in this country does not have the rights to that potato"
what happens, then, is the farmers starve and annexed nations undergo famine while the rich feast.

In North Korea, to this day, you will be forced to grow food and then given a meager pittance that might allow you to survive (not guaranteed)
In Ukraine, the food is taken and the people starve.
In Ireland, (I'm not Irish I'm a bong) but the potato famine is attributed to british soldiers enforcing that they give up their food.
Then, we have China and the Uyghurs...

This is what communism really is. They will say it will be different but fundamentally you are DEMANDING that the common worker, who owns? the means of production, is not entitled to their own work. ... Yeah, if they're even allowed to own the means of production.
The UK has actually done this before. During the war, if you butchered a pig, you have to give up maybe half that pig to be redistributed. Rationing was incredibly communist, but it worked out of desperation. The UK has one of the best examples of working communism but people overlook it, maybe because you can't expect people to put up with it for long outside of a war.

No. It's a way to mitigate legal and operational risk.

That's what 4chan needs, and fittingly enough, it is also what is 4chan capable of appreciating.
Communism works, when there's no real work involved.
