>>521137552how can you inherit something your family never owned?someone needs to make that first purchase.i own some land, only cause my parents bought it and put it in my name, its not a farm though, its all desert, i want to sell it and move to a latin country or somewhere in the east/eastern europe and buy land there (prefferably in south america though)but since my parents will live a while longer (they're in their 70's, so they'll be living for a few more decades) i cant sell or move anywhere till they cross the styx.we own land (two plots in baja california) that my parents are trying to sell, but mexicans are poor, and gringos aren't migrating to that area.getting land isn't the hardpart, working the land is.
>>521137617Being a farmer in the US from about 1950-1980 was as close a thing as we've ever had on this planet to utopia honestly. Since about 2000 it's become a mess though. Small farms are dead and the medium are dying out now. The best case scenario is to keep the farms intact and find some other means of income where you can live on it. Land that was acquired 150 years ago cannot be bought today it's basically priceless.

>>521138342I disagree. It is true that there is alot of work that goes into them particularly large woodland tracts. However, acquiring considerable amounts of quality property would cost many millions of dollars today. Also it's much different when you have roots there and your father had roots there, and your grandfather had roots there, and your great grandfather had roots there etc.
>>521137617because they believe a lie.being a farmer should'nt be about becoming rich or wealthy, but about having a stable life, and creating a stock bloodline to seed the closest major cities.if there are no farms, there's no big families, there's no one moving to the cities.cities die off eventually.the more people living rurally, in farms, the more families are produced (large families at that) and the more people end up migrating to cities.in the early 1900's 70-80% of the population lived on farms, now only about 2-3% live on farms, and we're worried about a population decline?yeah, farms aren't going to make you rich, but you will create huge families and populate the earth.why big families?you can't raise a big family in a city, where every little thing is regulated, your kids can't spend time outside and you wont feel that freedom needed to be fruitful and multiplybut you will get that in a rural farm, your kids will love growing up there, and you'd enjoy the great outdoors working the farm.will you be rich? probably notwill you be happy all the time? doubt itbut you will be healthier and free.then again, liberty isn't for everyone.

>>521138535No there are alot of people who still farm here. Mostly row crop corn, cotton, and peanuts. But it is getting harder and harder for medium volume operations. Beef cows are still profitable. Pecan orchards are still profitable. Honestly when it comes my time to make the decisions I will consider putting a couple hundred acres of dryland in pecans most likely and continue to rent out the center pivot. Long term it just makes more sense. The only reason it's a hard decision to make is you could have a hurricane blow up the gulf and wipe the pecans out completely. For now I am content to let someone pay rent to work the row crop, and I will just use the other half as a private woodland.

Most modern farmers wouldn't last 10mins if they have to break fresh ground by hand.
>>521131926>there were no cities in 1925
>>521143671Modern farming isnt how it used to be that's for sure- far less physical but that had pretty much changed since about the 50s (even though to a lesser degree than now). Farming is big business now. It is more like running a business than doing hand work. But for people doing small stuff or land management, it is all about using your time wisely and productively. Getting the most done in the least time. Why spend hours or days breaking ground by hand when you can use a disc to do the same work in five minutes?? And then you can use that time to do more things. I was at one time hung up on the larp of hand tools and sometimes it makes sense but I realized quickly that I have too much to do and not enough time to do it. In fact figuring out how to do things cleverly to get the most done as possible is perhaps the sign of someone that knows what they are doing. Spraying, burns, firebreaks, fences, barns, etc etc. I make some exceptions, for example I refuse to buy a log splitter but generally speaking you have to maximize your time within reason.

>>521146571Based on your reference alone I can tell your mind is clearly afflicted with video games etc. But humor me, what do YOU use a scythe for?
>>521146874ok, here: the scythe is used to make hay. the effort and the technique to handle it it is so high, that you cannot simply take it and use it like any other utensils, say an axe or a hammer. it takes time and practice to use it and even to maintain it (needs beating). you can't simply just take it off the shelf and use it like you would use a chain-saw. and even if you are using it correctly, you'll be gassed off within 2 minutes of use with no regular use. it does simply not compare with a lawn mower, which, obviously, it's used to keep a lawn (a scythe doesn't do that because it does not shred the grass) and you can do so in 10 minutes of what you can do in 3 hours of stenous work with the scythe. A riding mower will probably mow in 1 hr fields of days of scything.
>>521144368Yeah. That's my point. Farming is cost money. Since you need equipment. Which mean if you plan on doing it to live off of you need to spend money on equipment.Since doing it by hand is a fucking ton of work. More than most people can handle.Anyone who is moving rural to " live off the land " its going to be costly.Unless, as I have said a few times already, you have family and friend nearby that already has the equipment that you can use. They will need a tractor, attachments, and a truck to haul shit like wood in. >>521146874>what do YOU use a scythe for?oh, I misread the question. I read "what do you use a scythe for?"well ME, particularly, I do not use a scythe, simply because I don't have any animals to need hay for them. If I had sheep or cows, I would probably use a tractor for making hay. And, of course, I use a lawn mower for my lawn. I used a scythe, but never like a real farmer, back in the day when I was a young lad, when my dad had one (1) goat and we were cutting grass from elsewhere for it. And that's because my dad wanted to play farmer, we weren't real farmers.>>521147586It's the other way. Someone recommended a scythe as an alternative to a lawn mower. I was arguing that he is clueless. I was responding to this fellow right here: >>521135441. And he said to use it for mowing the lawn, not making hay, mind you.Anyways, to recommend a scythe for a lawn is pure ignorance. Yes, you need tractors and tools or if you ever resort to use a scythe very probably you won't have any time for your life. Machinery is unavoidable for farms now. And back in the day they were just replacing tractors with 3-4 new kids.

>>521146304So you constantly get into debt? For hookers, drugs and beer? You think everyone is that irresponsible with money and there is no alternative? There is no "hard reset". I could lose my entire income today and still continue my standard of living for years without having to make any debts. Financial reserves are a thing. Do you know what freedom is? The real thing, not the American fake shit that your politicians sell to retards. One of my friends calls it "fuck-you money". One monthly wage in your savings account and you don't have to tolerate shit from your parents anymore because you can go and get your own apartment whenever you want. Six monthly wages in your savings account and you don't have to tolerate shit from your boss anymore because what can he do, fire you? You have time, you can find a better job. Doesn't mean you have to, simply having the option already changes your perspective on life entirely. A few yearly wages and you stop caring about the things politicians say because they can no longer convince you that you need them. Ten or so and you can buy a new house and a new life wherever you want. You don't have to spend a single dollar for all those options. In the contrary, you have to keep your money together.
