As a thought experiment, if we were Russia and Russia was us and we invaded Ukraine we would be struggling just as much in this kind of a brutal slog. Right now we would be watching videos of our soldiers getting droned and our equipment getting blown up. The thing is most Americans, especially boomers, are completely delusional about our military capabilities against a peer let alone an entire enemy alliance playing backup to an already relatively strong nation. We have a tendency to believe we're invincible but this is a kind of deluded thinking borne out of the safety net of the two oceans keeping us far away from these conflicts. We haven't had a war on our soil since the 19th century and we are too cavalier and arrogant about it.
