This fish is called the Devil’s Hole Pupfish, and as of 2025 there are 263 of them. They grow to be less than 1 inch and are only found in one pond in Death Valley. They live in 93° F water, and can only spawn/breed in a rock shelf situated in the bottom of Devil’s hole, but scientists have managed to breed them in facilities as well. These fish have been isolated for thousands of years in this body of water and are unique.
That being said, 3 men who were randomly shooting guns in the area decided to get drunk nearby Devil’s Hole before one of them jumped in the water, and another one vomited on the fish. The left shotgun shells and empty beer cans near the water too.
https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2016/may/13/pupfish-dead-death-valley-national-park-nevada-arrests-drunk
Later on in 2018, 2 of them plead guilty to pleaded guilty to violations of the Endangered Species Act and destruction of government property, while the 3rd was also charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm on top of that too:
https://www.nps.gov/deva/learn/news/two-plead-guilty-to-violations-at-devils-hole.htm

The species rebounded luckily reaching an all time high in population this year.
Has something like this ever happened in your country with super rare native animal species?

Preservation of animals is usually a priority, especially when they are the rarest. Why do you ask this?

Every extinction closes the door on potential medical breakthroughs and scientific advances that could save lives and reduce healthcare costs.
Many species have traits humans cannot engineer but can learn from

but more importantly and equally as valid is the moral and cultural value. It's hard to give a correct nominal value on this but with regards to you it doesn't matter as your value is very low, obsolete even

Back during WWII, uncle Adolf tried to delete a sub-species of hominoid from Terra. Not all were eradicated and after putting them on a list of endangered, their numbers have intensified similar to a rodent population at a landfill. Was Adolf correct? I dunno. I do hope the fishes survive.
>>
>>522017487
Your a nigger, thats why
>>
>>522017152
Why are these fish important?
>>
>>522017393
Because in most cases it's absurd. This is a fish in the hottest desert on earth that lives in a glorified puddle that has no business being there and sooner or later won't be. It's a doomed species and it's only a matter of when not if. And it's not even a particularly impressive species that tugs at our emotions like a white tiger or pandas. It's just a boring little guppy like the kind you can buy at Petsmart.

you do not understand
studying rare data, like those fish, allows humans to extract rare information that leads to new medicines, and mechanical methods, and other things
rare things are conserved because they may have rare data
its like asking why conserve a tropical rain forest full of ultra rare plants and animals
its because humans use data, and those resources, from those things, to advance
and rare animals means rare data sometimes
its just such a simple concept, are you an idiot?
>>
>>522017487
Killifish are actually extremely interesting and are being used in aging, nephrology and kidney research. They have unique genetics from being extremophiles that mature extremely quickly. The pup fish isn't being used in anything right now as far as i am aware but their close relative is being used in kidney regeneration and dementia research
>>
>>522017878
Humans are self righteous creatures that try to play God to save all other creatures even those destined to disappear. This animal is an evolutionary dead end yet our hubris commands us to keep it alive as long as possible.

so those fish are infinitely more scientifically interesting than you (we already know how mongoloidism works)

>Franklinia alatamaha is effectively extinct in the wild
>doesn't provide edible fruit or lumber, mostly ornamental, supposedly a pain in the ass to grow
>people cultivated it anyway, basically saving it from extinction
The same basic premise (the Franklinia was a glacial relict, but you get the picture).

If people stopped being legalese pilpul worshiping niggers and actually tried to keep the species alive by propagation in artificially recreated environments, it might have more meaning.
>still has no net benefit
Neither do goldfish or other fish kept in aquariums, yet people do it anyway. It might not be the noble divine purpose of this fish, or a pragmatic benefit, but it would save it from being a distant memory without wasting millions or billions of dollars to keep it as a relict.

Species are mutation banks in a way, meaning they each store unique configurations of DNA and molecules that can’t be found anywhere else. Sometimes these compounds and genes can be used for breakthroughs in medicine or material science. Not only that but our understanding of these things is quite primitive and it’s clear in the future we will be able to properly make use of all this encrypted knowledge.
But even if they weren’t not caring about wildlife is the mark of the boomer.

Stupid idiots whose only idea of "fun" is to get drunk and cause a ruckus and cause mayhem and leave behind a giant nasty mess for somebody else to clean.

White trash like them are the reason niggers get away with their trash. No matter how evil and stupid and criminal niggers are, you can always find a few whites who are just as bad if not worse, and that allows race traitors to say, "look, see, race has nothing to do with anything, there are white niggers too!"
>>
>>522017342
This. They should have dropped into the global pet trade decades ago and become an invasive species in other inhospitable pits worldwide. The best way to save rare animals is to mass produce them and test the limits of their adaptability. Ship them off to museums and zoos, give them away like goldfish at carnivals, sell them at tourist traps, make them a team mascot and donate a fuckoff massive tank for them to populate, tell Asians they’re a good luck novelty, sell them at bait shops, dump them in underwater rivers and hot springs, drop them in Florida swamps to duke it out with all the other invasive exotic fish. Enough with having a dead end desert shrine be their salvation.
