In a similar fashion he also removed his war rememberance poppy whilst visiting a mosque because to have worn it would have been 'innapropriate' (another favourite leftist term) amongst people who he would regard as having suffered the consequences of western militarism. When you have political ideals such as he does, there are kinds of minefields and trap doors you can fall into. Saying the 'wrong thing' for example can extricate you from your friends and supporters and toast your political career.
