It's still boring at local government level but national governments are nothing but a personality/celebrity distraction hoarding resources, which is why local government has such a tendency to be inefficient. Politicians should be forbidden from having social media accounts. No fame, no ego, just serving the people they're elected to represent like it always used to be.
