Shit, I pet the cow that's in the freezer. She had a good life before she was shot in the head and hacked up into delicious chunks of meat. Vegans would have better luck mitigating the amount of animal suffering in the world if they would drop the absolutist moral grandstanding. It's very easy to make an argument to buy food from farmers who treat their animals well... but they never will because being a vegan is first and foremost a morality performance.

I've beheaded a big fat toad (to cook and feed to my chickens) and even headless it was literally squirming and fighting me AN HOUR LATER. I've also beheaded snakes and they keep thrashing and lashing and doing the rapid-bite attack even though they're long fucking dead.What I'm saying is, most animals only emulate fear. They are robots, biological robots that move and act in pre-determined ways, but the emotional suffering isn't really there (for most of them). I'm not saying that it's okay to torture an animal, definitely not, and it's well-known that some animals like dogs, dolphins, elephants, etc can feel complex emotions and have PTSD and mental illness and hold grudges, so it's not even all animals that I'm "dehumanizing" here. But a LOT of animals are literally just robots, or are so alien compared to how humans think that it's not even in the same universe.I can behead one of my chickens and the others will run over and slurp down the fresh blood and fight over the body, I have to shoo them away every time. They have NO loyalty, and feel NO sadness when one of the herd dies. They're just happy it ain't them.
