Ukraine has intensified drone attacks on Russian refineries and electrical infrastructure for several months. What happened? The Russians completely destroyed Ukrainian gas and electricity infrastructure, which was predictable since the Russians have much more means to do so.

A little over two years ago, the Russians attacked Ukrainian energy infrastructure but halted after facing criticism. With the Ukrainian attacks, the rationale for their return was valid.

According to the Washington Post, President Zelensky called for a ceasefire in the attacks on energy infrastructure, and it is likely that the Russians will agree.

The reality is that such Ukrainian attacks have caused losses of $2-4 billion for the Russians, which is very little for a nation that has already invested over $1 trillion in the war. Additionally, the cost of gas imports alone will exceed $2 billion for Ukraine, not to mention the repairs in the sector, where the gas industry alone had 60% of its infrastructure destroyed.
