It isn't about Venezuela. It's about how they're partnering closer to China. This is a statement to all western hemisphere countries to stay US aligned. Traditionally the US had steel and modern products- now we offer soft services that the rest of the world has caught up with. Our main strangle over the south is agricultural products and advanced weapons/military training. The issue is the US doesn't have much to offer when compared to cheap Chinese goods and even soft services like banking and belt and road initiatives have taken a lot of the US influence. Venezuela is the easy target and actually has trade goods we could aquire to make any intervention statement worth it. The easiest statement would be we're holding Venezuela hostage if China attempts anything with Taiwan. I project we won't go direct with Trump at the helm unless China provokes us.
