Should I become a farmer, /pol/? Redpill me on moving to the countryside and becoming a farmer. What is it like being far away from most of civilization?
Major corporations have taken over farming. They have the infrastructure to outcompete regular people operations. the scale. millions of acres. They sell more so they can sell it for less per unit

>>522531513It's not for everyone, I'm a hermit so I love it but I think it takes a certain kind of person that enjoys their own company. I'm in the deep south now, from a bigger city in Florida and I'm definitely an outsider even though everyone is friendly but for me being a hermit, that's just fine. If you're hoping to be accepted and involved in the community then you will be disappointed, you will be an outsider and they love gossiping. As for homesteading, it's way more work than you think if you haven't ever done it, the forest is always encroaching and needs constant taming but to me it's rewarding work, I love a neat and tidy land that I've tamed. Growing fruits and veggies will always throw you curveballs whether it's weather, bugs or a blight of some sort and animals are tough because you have to tend them so much they become almost pets. It's not an easy life but it is a rewarding life

>>522531513my dad appraised farmland for years and was a farm loan manager also. as such, he had seen many many instances of success on farms and failures. he always talked about how these days small scale farmers don't make it, but big scale ones do. you have to be willing to work hard and live simply. that's the key too, is to live simply. if you expect some kind of lavish lifestyle it'll eat your money away and you'll fail.
