Online politics isn't real. Involve yourself with local politics and you'll see how basically nobody engaging with actual politics gives a flying fuck about what's going on on twitter, 4chan, etc. They care about things what businesses want, what's going on with the local unions, the state of the schools, how to generate additional tax revenue, how to manage water disputes, etc. Whatever ideological ideas people might have when they enter politics are ground down to the bare minimum as they can't figure out how to fit the ideas of some 19th century philosopher in with the debate on what the minimum parking lot size for a retail businesses near suburban residencies should be.
