I've come to learn that not many germans actually own their property. My friend who lives in Berlin actually told me that most people in his house rent apartments generationally. Same thing with Finland - 70% live in municipal homes and basically pay rent to the government.I own 3 flats in the capital and a summerhouse within a 15min drive from said capital.It is really ironic that I'm richer than most western euros and americans at this point.

Basically around the richest cities real estate is expensive, but then you have like normal prices in the countryside 200k for an older house, the same price for a two room appartment in a mid sized city.And salaries are not low in big cities, honestly it all depends on how much experience you have in a certain field. Of course salaries are lower than in the USA but everything else is a lot cheaper.
