For some reason people don't understand that. It's why every attempt at a retro car has been disgusting for a decade straight. They all have fat A-pillars, that stooped forward profile, short tall round fat bonnet and so on. Squint a little and you can't tell any vehicle of the same class from any other. Slapping a vaguely past-inspired grille design and "round" headlights (that still follow the same blob contour everything else also has) on it doesn't change that. The days when vehicle bodies were designed by drawfags around some very basic parameters with otherwise complete artistic freedom are long gone. And they put that into law exactly because they know the average buyer would rather get 10% worse fuel efficiency than drive a blob. For the longest time conventional wisdom was that looks beat everything and aerodynamic concept cars were cool and all but no one cares that much about fuel efficiency to ever buy that ugly crap. Same with pedodestrian safety norms, no one would have given up cars looking like the old Jaguars just to reduce traffic fatalities by 5%. So they forced the issue. We're ruled by a bunch of lame nerds that put autistic mr. spock thinking ahead of anything being soulful or enjoyable. It's been proven that this is bad for mental health but that wasn't known at the time and was not weighted against the claimed benefits of the "Demolitionmanification" of our roads.
