Yes — modern Mexican and broader “Hispanic” food are largely the result of a deep blend of Indigenous American and Spanish (and, later, other European and African) culinary traditions. But Mexican food is the clearest and most famous example of this fusion.

For me, it's the McChicken. The best fast food sandwich. I even ask for extra McChicken sauce packets and the staff is so friendly and more than willing to oblige.

One time I asked for McChicken sauce packets and they gave me three. I said, "Wow, three for free!" and the nice friendly McDonald's worker laughed and said, "I'm going to call you 3-for-free!".

Now the staff greets me with "hey it's 3-for-free!" and ALWAYS give me three packets. It's such a fun and cool atmosphere at my local McDonald's restaurant, I go there at least 3 times a week for lunch and a large iced coffee with milk instead of cream, 1-2 times for breakfast on the weekend, and maybe once for dinner when I'm in a rush but want a great meal that is affordable, fast, and can match my daily nutritional needs.

I even dip my fries in McChicken sauce, it's delicious! What a great restaurant.

We have a recently famous native american restaurant in Minnesota called Owamni. All of their dishes are plated in an obviously French/European inspired way and they serve tacos for some reason? Also the entirety of central Minnesota was fought over for hundreds of years between the Dakota and Ojibwe tribes so let's just ignore that they participated in the conquests of land that they hate so much...
>>
Native Americans are only ~2% of the population, mostly poor and scattered, with many traditional foodways wiped out by genocide, boarding schools, and reservations. Few have the capital or customer base to open restaurants, and when they do, they’re usually on reservations or tribal casinos, invisible to most Americans. That’s why you basically never see one.

>>
>>522557392
I agree. The northern American Indian tribes were accidentally open to outsiders joining and there's no fucking way those idiots in South America didn't recognize their culture was well past it's heyday. Numbers steadily dwindling, absurd sacrifices. Their greatest civilization was 600 years old by the time Spaniards decided they were barbarians.
Northern Indians weren't so poorly of, until a plague wiped out most of them. Then they probably needed the numbers, and we're mostly nomadic placeless people's anyway.
Every piece of art you see of them shows things like horse riding, or clothing styles, tools, or weapons that they (almost) only were documented to use after foreigners breathed some life into their culture.
They needed the fresh blood. Most of them were fine with it.
Obviously some warred about it, and now that it behooves them in the current political climate they'll act like they were all noble savages fighting to protect their culture and oral history and blah blah blah...

Notice the difference in color from beef when raw. It is more "purple-ish" to me. It is different in flavor and texture from beef, but not substantially so. It isn't as different as something like elk or deer meat.

>>522557910
>Kinda dry,
That's entirely on the cook. Nothing about it makes it inherently more dry than beef. In fact, I think that it is generally pretty juicy when cooked properly.
>>
>>522558041
>They were a savage unevolved people that never developed a cuisine.
FTFY.
>>
>>522556187
They're around however, how most of the time they just called Mexican restaurants. Though there are a few "native restaurants."
>>
>>522556395
More than half of those required whitey to show up and show them how it's done. Take chocolate for example. Cocoa had been used for centuries by the Maya, but it took the Swiss to turn it into chocolate bars. It's not like the Maya didn't have sugar or honey, or cocoa fats, they just weren't that bright about how they used it.

>>522556187
Natives didn't have a civilization. They barely had subsistence gardening, and even then they'd pack up and go elsewhere constantly. Their food, by and large, was what could be gathered from the woods. Acorns, pine cones, cattail tubers. One tribe, the Algonquin, was literally named after their habit for eating pine bark. Generally their food would keep them alive but tasted like shit. When the natives got access to free wheat bread from the government they never looked back.
>>
>>522558063
>That's entirely on the cook. Nothing about it makes it inherently more dry than beef. In fact, I think that it is generally pretty juicy when cooked properly.
I believe you. I'm no expert. I like the taste better than beef, but I've only had it a few times and I assume not the best it could've been.
So it's just my experience.
I've also never had ox.
>>
According to known and accepted mainstream history, every corn relate potatoes related thing is it!

But to be honest, I would love to go to one.

Mexican food is also close if not it really, the South warmer areas version, colder would be North, so a lot of raw meat. I grew up eating cured meats, almost raw, similar way, I'd enjoy the food.

From "The Oregon Trail: Sketches of Prairie and Rocky-Mountain Life" by Francis Parkman, published in 1847.

>So, in the absence of better, he seized upon a red-hot brand from the fire, and clapped it against the temple of the old squaw, who set up an unearthly howl, at which the rest of the family broke out into a laugh.
>During these medical operations Smoke’s eldest squaw entered the lodge, with a sort of stone mallet in her hand. I had observed some time before a litter of well-grown black puppies, comfortably nestled among some buffalo robes at one side; but this newcomer speedily disturbed their enjoyment; for seizing one of them by the hind paw, she dragged him out, and carrying him to the entrance of the lodge, hammered him on the head till she killed him. Being quite conscious to what this preparation tended, I looked through a hole in the back of the lodge to see the next steps of the process. The squaw, holding the puppy by the legs, was swinging him to and fro through the blaze of a fire, until the hair was singed off. This done, she unsheathed her knife and cut him into small pieces, which she dropped into a kettle to boil. In a few moments a large wooden dish was set before us, filled with this delicate preparation. We felt conscious of the honor. A dog-feast is the greatest compliment a Dakota can offer to his guest; and knowing that to refuse eating would be an affront, we attacked the little dog and devoured him before the eyes of his unconscious parent. Smoke in the meantime was preparing his great pipe. It was lighted when we had finished our repast, and we passed it from one to another till the bowl was empty. This done, we took our leave without further ceremony, knocked at the gate of the fort, and after making ourselves known were admitted.

They would basicly just be making things up.
Most uniquely native American food was horrible and the rest just minimaly prepared things we already eat.

I saw the traditional method used by some to eat rat. They crush the entire thing bones and all as flat as a tortilla then overcook it on a fire.

Or the acorn flat bread worse than any leavened thing.
Or the tiny maize before the white man selectively bred it into large modern corn.
Maybe some inuit seal blubber?
Really bitter unsweetened cocao chocolate drinks like drinking baking chocolate in a glass?

The best food was probably just animal meat over a fire. Or fish as it comes out of the ocean.

Mexico had the Spanish, even the French ruled briefly, and immigrants from all over. Some of the ingredients may be the same but is prepared nothing alike.

this article is over a decade old and while you can never really refute a hypothesis, the majority of evidence supporting the soultrean hypothesis (including the dating of the artifacts mentioned in this article) has been either refuted or undermined at this point. genetic analysis of native remains also hasn't shown any evidence at all of precolonial european admixture.

there is good evidence for polynesian pre-columbian contact (including genetic evidence, easter islanders are polynesians with precolumbian native american admixture) not european (aside from the vikings ofc).

Depends on what you consider native. If you mean aboriginals then they found a much better niche in casinos, they probably have their own cuisine but don't share mainstream, I believe they really don't have one.
If you mean the place, well then you could say burgers and pizza are the best bet. Maybe fast food in general.
They're dishes that may have existed but were different and the american variant has been accepted as superior worldwide. Some might say also BBQ but the whole fucking world cooks meat on a grill with a slight difference in technique, at best you could say the technique or seasoning is native but not the dish itself

there are a number of claims to naming the invention, as you're probably aware. one (the Kraus version, based on rundstück) is indeed from hamburg, all other ones are from the states. i don't see why this should be subject of dispute when many immigrants were in fact german, and even the murrikan hamburg's name goes back to the original. there's a dresden too, interestingly. minced beef with something on the side has been around since roman times. hamburg is without doubt a german city. germans were involved in cuisine in murrikah. so shall we just share this, or do you need to insist 'you' made a german thing better? what's the difference between a beef steak and a burger when both are made from minced beef?

>Specific examples of consuming female animal genitalia or related reproductive parts among American Indian Tribes include:
>Pig Vagina/Uterus: This is consumed in some North Central Tribes of the Ohio River Valley. In such environments, sweet pig vagina is a dish made with elderberries, though it can be a rare item used for celebrations and rituals. The uterus is also found in some Black Hills and Upper Michigan Tribal dishes, often in soups or stews, where it is noted for its very chewy, muscular texture.
>Buffalo Vagina: In the Western United States, there are regional dishes that involve roasting buffalo vagina with ingredients like prickly pear cacti.

Native American here.
Fry Bread, indian tacos
Corn pudding
Bison/venison stew
Three sisters stew
Bear stew
Maple glazed squash/yams
Blue corn mush
That’s all I can think of.
There aren’t a lot that survived. Most native culture died with them during the great American die off. But most meals were very red meat heavy (deer, elk, bison, rabbit, goat) also alligator in the south east, and turkey.
The meat heavy diet is why pilgrims coming to the Americas were astonished at how tall and large the native Americans were. And that diet trickled over to them and they became larger than their European counterparts.
>>
when i researched native american diets it seemed like the most common meals were rock boiled stews. they superheated rocks and boiled water that way without metal. they were uncivilized survivalists. it makes sense. when you roast anything outside water you lose nutrition when it drips off. water contains all your nutrients. they just tossed bits of the animal in water with other foraged goods. they often used their canoes as a stew pot. or animal stomachs. they didnt have a cuisine. they just survived. thats why theres no fuckin native american restaurants. mexicans have a cuisine because mexicans are predominately european (spaniard).

Florida native here. You can find Seminole food stands (or small shops) roadside in the rural parts of the south of the state. Grub is pretty good and the people are pretty chill so I try and support when I pass through.
The issue is that there aren't a lot of NA communities of sufficient size to maintain restaurants and those that do exist are pretty insular so you'd have to know about it (they aren't going to advertise). Finally, and ironically, most NA have "gone native" and most don't maintain their cultural roots (those that survived.) Seminoles (and Miccosukee) are some of the few that do but even then that's sort of an issue since they aren't an "OG tribe" and just the amalgamation of a bunch of defeated tribes and runaway slaves.

The so-called "Aztecs" called themselves Mexica.
Spain's original plan was to incorporate the Mexica as a client state while keeping all of the indigenous power structures in place.
This only changed once the natives started dying out from smallpox and measles.
>>
>>522556522

I read that some Mexican food is really Arabic food: the Spanish wanted to eat grilled meat and sauce wrapped in a flatbread—a schwarma, in other words. That meal was popularized during the centuries-long moslem conquest of the Spanish peninsula.
The Mexican tribes did not have wheat bread so they used baked mashed corn; they did not have rotisserie beef so they used grilled chopped meat and the sauce available was a tomato-chile paste (salsa). The Mayans came up with the taco.

yea it's kind of funny because on the one hand modern "civilized" people have a more developed food culture.. but the paradox is that in many regions "food culture" is synonymous with complexity of preparation and MANY preparations emerged from a necessity not to make the food enjoyable, but to make it palatable in the face of impending spoilage and rot.. so the development of food culture is sort of a BYPRODUCT of the unsanitary conditions characteristic of "civilization" which entails domesticated livestock in closed conditions, septic and sanitation challenges, food preservation challenges imposed by the necessity of thrift in these urban centers.. Contrastingly native americans and all kinds of other less "civilized" and "cultured" people had more food than they could consume were they willing to put in the effort and enough open space that sanitation wasn't of concern in any way... so who was really winning?

Tldr, Indigenous Straight White Non Jewish territories soon... Other peoples can have their own territories also, Anons.

As in feather people or white Americans?

Because white Americans have a distinct food culture that they’ve mostly forgotten due to fast food dominance.
It’s actually pretty sad.

The redskin wasn’t referring to the skin around a hotdog.

You gotta go to the southwest deep in the indian reservations to find authetic native cuisine, I'm talking the shit sold out of a dilapidated 1980's van parked alone on the side of the road in the middle of a desert with a grill set up next to it being attended to by an obese native woman

When Whites started migrating into Wisconsin, we bumped into the Ojibwe. We offered to buy the land, and they claimed to own Wisconsin and into the Dakotas. So we gave them a huge pile of wampum.
Then we migrated into Minnesota and bumped into the Dakota. We had to give them a pile of money too.
This was after we gave the French a pile of money.
Someone got ripped off, and it wasn't the Indians.

Owamni by the Sioux Chef, or simply Owamni, is a Native American restaurant in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota, that overlooks the Mississippi River. Owamni's majority Native American staff serves a menu made from indigenous ingredients such as game meats, corn, and wild plants.[1]

Some of the dishes served include amaranth tostadas with dip made from tepary beans and smoked trout, a crispy cricket seed mix with chili and maple, and bison tartare garnished with wasna and curled crackers made of wild rice and corn's ancestor, teosinte.[10] Also served are sandwiches—arepas heaped with ground elk, sweet potatoes, and pepitas,[11] or, turkey,[12] or, the three sisters: black bean pureé, pickled squash, and corn.[13] Wojabe, a foraged berry sauce traditionally made with chokeberries, tops both sweet desserts and savory dishes.[14][11]

On opening, recognition came from local, national, and international reviewers.[15] Less than one year after opening,[5] Owamni won the James Beard Foundation Award for best new restaurant in 2022.[16][17]

So....
Kind of like Chinese food?

Maize was domesticated by indigenous peoples in southern Mexico about 9,000 years ago from wild teosinte. Native Americans planted it alongside beans and squashes in the Three Sisters polyculture.

Maize relies on humans for its propagation. Since the Columbian exchange, it has become a staple food in many parts of the world, with the total production of maize surpassing that of wheat and rice.
>>
Zea diploperennis, the diploperennial teosinte,[2] is a species of grass (family: Poaceae) in the genus Zea and a teosinte (wild relative of maize or corn). It is perennial.
