The University of Minnesota’s “Whiteness Pandemic” basically treats white fragility and white guilt like some new emotional flu, acting like students might break out in defensiveness the way other people get rashes. The whole thing reads like the school is rushing around saying, “Uh-oh, Timmy feels awkward talking about race — call the CDC!” It turns normal uncomfortable feelings into a full-blown campus emergency, as if the cure is a bunch of workshops and a PowerPoint that nobody wants to sit through. It’s less like a serious issue and more like the university dramatizing basic human awkwardness just so it sounds important.
