https://www.hs.fi/tiede/art-2000011656889.htmlA man now says that cats were taken to be human pets starting from 2600 years agoAncient China and Ancient Greece are much older cultures than 2600 years ago.Cats originate from Egypt, it was an Egyptian easily domesticable small predator. The wild form looks like domestic cats in Scandinavia and Russia.Meanwhile, dogs were tamed 40 000 years ago, an extremely huge difference.First cat arrived on East Europe 1800 years ago as a pet of some rich man. He bought it from Turkey.Cats arrived in China and Japan really late, 1300 years ago.HOWEVER Chinese did try to tame Chinese micro leopard already 3000 years ago. But its not possible to tame completely. For 1000 years Chinese havent kept the leopard strain as pets.
>>522571551Yeah no shit, cats had no use to humans before agriculture
>>522571551thx doc
>>522571638But my cat has no use even todayHe's just really friggin' annoyingI wish it was a cat sized pet spider instead
You could just look it up> The oldest evidence of cat domestication was found in a grave at Shillourokambos, Cyprus, dating back about 9,500 years, where a cat was buried alongside a human. This discovery challenges the previous belief that cats were first domesticated in ancient Egypt around 3,600 years ago.
>>522571638Wow incredible! Certainly correct, and that resolves this thread.
>>522571892>stupid cat jumps into a grave>wow, it must have been a pet
>>522571551Cats and humans have co-existed for a long time because we are not a threat to each other and we don't compete for resources. Whether you call that relationship taming or domestication or anything else, humans are generally predisposed to liking cats and cats eat shit that we don't even consider food (humans don't eat mice or small birds except in extremely dire circumstances). Meanwhile, being near human settlements protects cats from a lot of their natural predators, because humans won't tolerate the presence of a lot of things that eat cats in the wild. We never went out of our way to domesticate cats like we did with dogs. Cats and humans just sort of decided in tandem that living together was pretty neat.
