why do murican houses just have a ground floor? are they too fat to walk up some stairs?

The house would fall down if you built a second floor out of just wood.

It's difficult to make a wooden floor that isn't a auditory nuisance.

Several reasons.
1. Harder to build
2. Stairs
3. Dangerous to work at height
4. Maintenence is harder
5. Single story houses feel bigger with huge open spaces
6. Cheaper
7. Faster to build

I have a 3 story plus basement house and there is 0 chance I'll ever work on the roof. It is too fucking high. I end up paying huge money to retards to do any roof or gutter work.

Yes, climate has a huge impact and in hot climates it's better to live underground.
I think in cold climates houses almost always have at least two floors just to have warm bedrooms.
In very traditional farms people even kept animals at ground level so the living quarters above got some free heating.

>>
>>522585547
>doesnt have at least 2 floors
Most people don't like two stories as they get older. Even some of my early buying friends hated their two floor condos being the top floor was too damn hot in summer. Peak home ownership is a ranch style home that is sized to your current needs.
I'd personally never buy a two story home VS a ranch set up. Only exception would be if it was such a perfect location that I had no choice.
>>
>>522585547
It's funny your Yuropors are posturing about houses as if you guys
>A) have less homes to choose from
>B) have older homes to put up with

I used to live in Germany. Sure basements are nice, but everything about their homes are subpar otherwise. Shitty water pipes, can't drink. No carpets, all tile. No central heating, need tank heaters in every room.

A more important metric is if young adults are buying homes. I know America ain't doing well, but DEFINITELY Yurop holds no fucking candle. It like a midget talking about about short people

Did you notice too, how they love putting fake storm shutters on everything? The mount them in a way that makes them obvious they don't even move. Look at these things, they're not even wide enough to cover the actual window. I don't even think Americans even really know what a storm shutter is. because an arched roof and shutters is a very popular cottage style look. Even a flat classical style still needs something to bust up the monotone look. There is reasons for all of this stuff..

That's a very low IQ take. Wood is very sturdy, but our spic labor force that builds the houses cuts corners left and right. There's no such things as a new build home in the US that actually meets code and that includes the multi-million dollar homes. These spics are even too lazy to meet minimum attic insulation requirements, so the fact that the trusses are either incomplete or catastrophically damaged shouldn't surprise anyone and that's why multi-story homes are asking for trouble. I saw a single story today with such shitty construction that the roof is collapsing because the trusses are broken, so the entire structure is compromised. Homes in the US are now absolutely overpriced disposable cardboard boxes. It wasn't anywhere near this bad even 20 years ago, so it'll be interesting to see the results of this 20 years from now.

Yeah no shit it's decorative. It still looks like crap if you have half a brain. They should just invent a purely decorative element to add in there or change up the design. I just look at those ugly things and how they can't even cover half of the window if they could move at all and I hate it.

Hell, why not just put real ones on there? Could they be that much more expensive than the fake ones?

>or change up the design.
Keep in mind people also want to blend into the neighborhood and suburb USA is a mix of areas all built out in 1940 to all built out in modern day. If you buy into a 1950s area like I live your going to have the shutters like 85% of the homes.
there is little motivation to drop $$$ into some sort of real sized shutters for no reason. Like this shitty house for 835k a few miles over from my home. That dumb as hell but they aren't going to slap on huge real shutters, they don't even have the wall space. The only real fix vs the cottage look would be to redo the entire front into something more modern but again, pointless as every other house is just meh cottage.

And most importantly ONLY HIRE WHITE LABOR.

This is actually very difficult because you don't know who the contractor is going to bring in, so you have to be your own contractor. Many do it like this, but obviously it's more intensive. It also guarantees that you won't get scammed by a contractor which is very common in home building. They'll give you a good price, then halfway through claim they need way more money to finish it.

My wife's grandparents lived like this. Their house was built in the 1700s and is still standing. They have no central heating, everything is heated with wood, even the kitchen stove. No animals in the house anymore, but one room used to have them, and is still called "Stall" (barn) to this day.

>>
>>522581148
It depends on the location in the country. I can tell OP pic is somewhere in the southwest based on the yards and flora. In hotter states, one floor houses are idea because heat rises. Second floors would heat up to ovens in the summer heat and sun.

Otherwise, loads of American homes are multi-story in other parts of the country.
>>
>>522584485
You're right, that does look like Australia now that I see the vehicles and they're parked on the left. I thought it was the southwest of US. In my defense, they're similar climate: hot, dry, and oppressive sunlight.
>>
>>522588905
We have government inspectors (city/county) that will sign off on anything. Their names are usually something like Gonzalez. The only organization in this state that really does its job is the ROC (Registrar of Contractors), but there are many steps to take before they get involved. What the engineers mostly do is sign off on planned fixes and then the builder will circumvent the entire process (including getting the necessary permits AND the engineers' plans), half-ass the fix and then call it good hoping that they can convince the homeowner that it's up to code or they may even try to just tell them that it's out of/not covered by warranty. This kind of shit is how companies like DR Horton are clearing $40B in revenue annually.

at least we dont burn down entire apartment blocks because of the silly candle heaters you krautcucks love to use. only refugees get gas heating

they learned a lot from europe lol
in (except maybe netherlands and germany and the nordics) 60 IQ illegal workers would cut through the reinforced concrete resistance structure of a 10 story high apartment building for a $5 bribe

Because foundation is expensive
>>
>>522581148
Because we have enough land to put it all on one floor. Why have stairs when you don't have to? Oh by the way I also have a full basement the same size as the ground floor, and we use it for a lot of things and have stairs down to it, so it really is 2 stories.
>>
>>522581488
I think more expensive because for the same square footage, a more land and a larger foundation are needed. But not much more expensive, so a good idea if you have enough land.
>>
Dozens of replies and none are correct.
Houses have basements because pipes have to come in below ground where it doesn't freeze.
>>
>>522591549
thats so wrong its not even funny
>>
>>522583071
We have that but leave the basement unfinished. Use it as workshop, have freezers and various storage down there. And if there's any leakage, it's easy to see, and no easy places for mildew to grow.
Highly recommend a detached garage. Ours is built out of cinder blocks, uninsulated, unfinished, used for one car plus all the lawn maintenance equipment (riding mower, snowblower, etc. and more storage. Then you don't get gasoline or garbage odors in your house.
>>
>>522589022
Yes it's better to have a hardwood floor and put a rug over it if you want a rug. But mass American housing was built factory style, and massive rolls of carpeting are brought in and rolled out over subflooring.
>>
>>522589141
one story black roofs and the brick construction with majority of the lot being used up are tell away signs. also the types of plants. i'm surprised that i'm the only US anon who has pointed out this doesn't look at all like america
>>
>>522581781
Efficient with space, just leave the car on a pad in front of the house instead of a garage to the side, backyard behind the house is private. Some US neighborhoods would be better that way, rather than making the house tiny and chopped up to fit a garage beside it.
>>
>>522582115
I do my own gutter work and risk and I admit I take some risk, but my house is a ranch. But we have a lot of leaves in the fall, and there's one downspout that I have to clear out regularly.
I never go up on the roof, that requires skill that I don't want to learn that I don't have. I pay someone to do that, but it's not often needed.
>>
>>522581421
Now do the Sindney Sweeny one. That was very good too.

Why climb all those stairs?
>>
>>522581781

Great roofs, but the houses are so ugly, soulless
>>
>>522592079
OK leaf explain. Sure one could have a crawlspace, but those suck. And in Canada your floor will be very cold in winter if you just build on a slab.
>>
>>522593685
I like the simple design. I am a boomer and think the houses built in the US during my lifetime are especially ugly, lots of extra fake gables and unnecessary cuts. Such "personality" isn't needed.
>>
>>522593769
just set the pipes in the ground and bring them up into the house....or simply insulate them above ground. as for cold pads, what you do is have thick solid insulation inside it when you pour. its done all the time.
>>
>>522581633
why does it have a seat belt?
>>
>>522594777
what if some poor old dear passes out or something? that would be a good way to fall down the stairs

It's probably cheaper to just build single level structures.

An Australian suburban street pictured so I'll stick my nose in. You fucking Euro's with your 3 to 5 story shitboxes with narrow steep as fuck staircases and usually no lift have absolutely no right to point your oily fingers at anyone. Only poor people in times past were forced to live on the higher floors because the shitty buildings used to burn down all the time, there was no way out for the poor the rich cunts on the first floor were out in the street laughing as their kitchen fire suffocated all the poor cunts above them, Here two story buildings are put on shitty little blocks that only require a small footprint, no one wants stairs in their house for obvious reasons.

New midwestern Canadian woodframe construction houses. The building itself is narrow but longer with 2 floors and a basement. Asking price is like 600,000 which is unbelievable for the amount of square meters the place is.

but that house size at that price is sickening. I bought a 2500 sq ft place early this year in NE OK for 300k and i STILL feel like i overpaid

Checked, but let me explain something my ESL friend. You don't ask how a German does anything in Germany, they will undoubtedly always tell you.

We have something called EARTHQUAKES, here, something Germans would never understand.

>but the houses are so ugly
The new ones look kinda sad, architects just design a few houses and let you buy them off a catalogue. Makes them cheaper but also really boring. Also those are probably prefab walls/houses
>>
>>522596405
I want to know the answer. What is the purpose of the niggers and arab men in german homes.

Also your english is terrible and you need to go back to school if you think my english is from esl.

take a walk, to the nearest gym.
You don't have to go inside, if you actually walked there then you got a good amount of exercise.
If you took a car to the parking lot and walked to the door, go inside and give a personal trainer your power of attorney.

You forgot wider. American homes have a larger floorplan and are twice as wide on average as a European home, but are less likely to have a second floor like yours does. Wide vs tall.

these would be fine....
for 100,000
and the trees need to grow a bit more. i would like to see like purple and pink and yellow, white flowers too. adds to the appearance.
what's especially good in this picture and perhaps it's something that people can tell but can't point out, is that the driveways are in the back out to the alley instead of to the main road.

Good luck touching that for any low multiple of your 100,000. I don't understand Canadian property prices either, they have lots of unsettled land all they have to do is go north of what's settled already, and they have infinite timber. But those are the prices.
