If they found dezi and just executed him, to avoid the coroner finding out the police might have just dumped the body. Likelihood of him evading the search? Not great. Likelihood of some random cop shooting him in the back and hiding the body, significantly more likely. No trial, no publicity, no public scrutiny, no media, a hole, a shovel, someone who shot cops. The simple answer.

Given that s single cop could have killed him and hidden the body, it seems the most likely. Especially if it was a local cop, who killed dezi early in the search.
