Shit economy which in later years was ran heavily on foreign debt (they borrowed a lot via bonds from American banks to prop it up) which just served to piss off all the satelite countries they forced to be under their umbrella.
>>
USSR did glasnost. America had nothing to do with it

Because communism sucks, especially at scale.

Scale is the only reason it works because you need slave labor

The Russians realized the chinks were with the U.S in Afghanistan. So they purposely destroyed there communist state to smite them. As for everything else happening really they could've just sent the Soviet army and crushed all resistance. Also Gorbachev had no idea what he was doing.

One of the stories went that they over extended their nuclear missile program and sunk their economy. Think that's bullshit, but I don't really have a clue.

USSR leaders became too weak and soft. Stalin predicted it. USSR steadily went to shit after his death.

Centrally planned economies inevitably fuck up. Centralised anything inevitably fucks up. You can't place the resources of a society into the hands of a few and still expect that society to be responsive to people's needs, the power gap between administration and everybody else widens, administrators become detached from the society they're meant to serve and begin misusing the resources granted to them pursuing their own agenda or vision.

This understandably pisses people off and they eventually decide to wipe the slate clean and start again, a new cycle of prosperity ensues, resources begin to centralise again, and the whole thing repeats itself. Collapse can only be delayed by heavy handed legislation and policing to offset discontent.
