No, but the average voter needs to know how ineffective their voice is in steering the offerings of the two main parties. Only not voting for them en masse will send the signal, and they won't have to lose to see the message, either; if 1/3 or even 1/8th of the country cast their vote for a third party, they'd break their backs trying to win those voters back. They can't afford to have people even going to the polls if they're not going to elect one of the offered pawns.
