No, it's effectively cultural narcissism for low functioning people. If they see a restaurant offer free sides they have to get as many as they can in order to demonstrate to their peers they have the biggest izzat.

Not really, while Irish pride and honor culture are imo fairly destructive they aren't nearly as bad as Izzat is for the simple fact that they require a sense of proportionality and they aren't hierarchal, it's generally understood that the lowest peasant might have a blood feud with a chief that's just as legitimate as nobles feuding over stupid shit. Izzat is inherently about enforcing a hierarchy, truth or what is right doesn't really enter into the equation at all, in fact you get MORE Izzat for "winning" even when you're in the wrong.
