It all started because a couple of New Balance execs praised Trump when he got elected because they were vocal opponents of TPP, which Trump promised in his campaign to throw out. Leftist rags obviously did their shock and smear campaign, encouraged consumers and influencers to cut up or burn their sneakers and then boycott the brand. Then some “white nationalist” (I don’t even actually know who it was) publicly supported New Balance and started wearing New Balance. This incensed the lefties even more and sent them into hysterics. Lefty journalists and academics have been insisting New Balance is a popular uniform brand among white nationalists ever since. The whole thing was basically made up in leftist hysterics as a way to punish New Balance for saying anything remotely positive about Trump back in 2016.
