The 14900K (and other Intel 7 based processors) built on a 2022 process is still a top chip. DDR5 has obviously gone up, flash memory is the same or slightly higher than it was in 2024. Top time to get a new rig was somewhere around late 2024 before 4090s at MSRP sold out, CPU, RAM prices were the lowest during Summer 2025.

You can buy a top of the line unit with an apu and all the extra ports but without any of the overpriced internals to go with it. A lot of boomers hate them though because they get hung up on not having a screen or battery like a laptop.
