I had to take home economics in junior high and they taught cooking. I was a latchkey kid and had to make my own breakfast since like 7 or 8 so I knew how to cook. Made the best omelet in class and people just called me gay lol. It was amazing that kids were 13 or 14 and never used a stove before

Even if you prepare the simplest of dishes, you will have dishes to wash. When it's a more complex and flavorful recipe, then you're fucked. And leaving the dishes in the sinm after cooking is a bad idea 100% of the times.

But, they’re tied into career technical education (CTE) so it’s all about commercial kitchen operations. And, even if they can find someone to teach the class and not just get a permanent sub to babysit it, they don’t have a budget for actual food. So even though they have these modern commercial kitchen classrooms, the students just end up doing bookwork.

They do. It's part of home ec. Home ec however has for a long time had an image as a womans subject and as time progressed the perception has compounded on itself making the curriculum more and more pozzed and female focused. This is unfortunate because it's also the class that's meant to teach students about things like how to balance a budget and other basic finance management, how to navigate the hiring process, do taxes, and things like that. Home ec as a womans subject leaves young men particularly unprepared for adult life.
