They have no fucking idea. I remember in highschool my friend dropped 3k on a computer. It could play Morrowind and Starcraft perfectly.
PC is the best shit ever. Only one system you can play dos games, emulation, and every single game made in the past 40+ years.
Even going into 2026 the next generation consoles can't even guarantee 60-120fps on all games. Pathetic.

You could buy CD ROMs too and store a lot of musics or porns on them. If you know about CD ROMS they are whatever. DVD ROMS were just a bigger upgrade and then they had BLUERAY ROMS which was even better. Now I don't even know what they have. But in terms of CD ROMS you get a lot more back then than you do today due to the Techjeet debt inversion curve. But yea it cost like 10USD back then for a high end GPU for gaming which is like 6M USD in today's monies, due to ethnic coin shaving economic traditions.

>Massive price increases and shortages
>"RAM prices are not a product of inflation it's a product of supply and demand"
Fucking neck yourself right now you FUCKING RETARD. Abnormally low interest rates are triggering excess demand, causing inflation. This is the same exact situation that caused the Fed to raise interest rates in the first place, and now we're back to square one with inflation because they cut prematurely. This is 100% undeniably the fault of people who said to ignore inflation and cut rates anyway. OpenAI never would have been able to take out those loans if they hand't prematurely cut interest rates. You're spot on with the mouse.
My BEST mouse ever was a cheap Logitech ball mouse, RF Dongle.

I use to dumpster dive on wall street for 386dx systems. Once I had enough parts I'd sell the complete computer. The home shopping network was selling these systems for $3000. Hardest part was getting a working monitor. Had to find an outlet before hauling it back on the subway.

Oh and most people thought $32k was a good salary. Respectable.
I entered the job market in 1999 writing ColdFusion and Perl for websites. I made a blazing $6.25/hr. Yes I was getting ripped off but it got me into the field.
To me, $30k was a dream I'd reach someday.
Back in 2005, I walked in to a place looking for a programmer and they asked me what salary I wanted. I skyballed it and said I need $45k.
They hired me instantly. I had no idea how cheap that was. I got fucked over so many times. In some ways I still do. Nut thank God for compound interest, I should be able to retire around 55 if the economy doesn't collapse (It will).

Yea but you weren’t endlessly bombarded with ads and in-app purchases in your shit. The OS did what it was supposed to and just that, not full of spyware and telemetry.

My Win98 machine still runs clean as a whistle and I can still play all my games without needing to worry about some online connectivity or “launcher” by some company to install or run it.

I also don’t need to make endless accounts just to single tasks. And my games aren’t full of blue-haired freaks (if so I get to kill them).

You could put it down there. It's a foot stool basically, but they designed the back with pegs so you could make it flat. When I had it I put the sub on the top, with the other 4 front/back on the top, and center under the monitor.

It was an epic design. Two fatal flaws though:

1) Compressed sawdust
2) the center was too small for modern LCDs as it was designed for CRTs. I managed to get a trinitron in that bitch though at one point.

I actually have the loan paperwork and sales invoices/receipts for this computer, here’s the listed prices for a 1985 AT&T PC 6300(IBM PC-XT-AT compatible)
Pricing information on February 20th, 1985(actual purchase price on receipts):

AT&T PC 6300 Model 1: 128K RAM & Dual 360K drives with High-res color monitor: $1991.50

256K Byte Board: $420.00

128K Byte chip: $280.00

Keyboard: $105.00

MS-DOS package(w/GW BASIC):$65.00*

AT&T PC 6300 mouse: $110.64

*This represents a one-time right to use fee, NOT purchase price
Prices include N.P.A. discount

By the 90’s Packard Bell saved the day, and then eMachines(shudders internally).

In 1985 a Ranger or Escort could be had for ~$6K. In 78, a thunderbird was 5K. An 86 Taurus was $9K- but by 92, $15K base.

This is actually the worst time of year. Companies that need to fix their machines e.g phone companies computers break someone buying their kid a computer fox xmas they have to pay whatever the price is in December within reason. It's not just the stock price.

I love how today you can just buy some surplus business laptop for $150 and it’ll work for like 15 years. I still have my T420.

If I didn't share half a house with house mates I'd literally consider doing that lol. Perhaps a portable toilet, I hate it when you need to just piss and you've been waiting to do something with people online for say 2 hours.

In the 90s and especially 2000s, you could buy a heavily discounted PC a couple years behind the cutting edge and still have a decent setup for most tasks. The doubling rate for processing power back then was much faster than now. My parents still use a stock Win7 PC from 2010, which they only upgraded to because the early 2000s PC that ran the 32 bit version of XP wasn't up to the task anymore. They're about to upgrade again finally lol.

Schoolyard rumors spread, nerds had discovered something big. As more and more cases came back confirmed, moments like these spread across suburbia. And it was cool.

in 97-99 a gateway home computer with a printer was a package deal you could get for about 1500-1800 dollars.

you can get one now sans printer for 600 that is 50 times as powerful.

Consoles are cheap as shit compared to a pc. That's why the performance is lower.
>>
>>523670564
>Even going into 2026 the next generation consoles can't even guarantee 60-120fps on all games.

Neither can PC with these ai programmed unreal 5 slop titles. Pajeets and niggers can't optimize worth of shit so unless you got 8 grand for a 5090 and the latest AMD CPU along with 32gigs of DDR5 your better off with consoles going forward.

A 1080Ti still plays every game out at 120fps. (especially when you don't rely on Ai frames). As you said, people don't know how to optimize. Just turning ambient occlusion to low can increase fps by 20+.
PS2 has the equivalent of a 2080 in it, and because its running through a console, they think 60fps is standard for 2025. LOL

What are you talking about? 2000s was cheap already everybody had a PC back then.
90s was when prices were coming crashing down.
It was before that in the 80s when they were actually expensive, we had some late 80s IBM PC and it cost like $20,000

I long for the days of clinky, cheap ass, laminated particle board computers desks, bookshelves, entertainment/tv stands. Kino,

Unironic. Modern shit has become so bad, that shit looks amazing right now. Plus it made a PC feel more like a PC. It was a full body experience. Modern PC in pocket culture is for fags.

i plugged one in maybe 10 years ago and other than the response time, it was worse in every way - even the black levels aren't what i remembered - they reflected every light in the room and made it unnaturally dark

I knew a guy who saw a picture of a boob once, dude was a fucking legend.
Seriously, until 1997 pornography was a page torn out of someone’s dad’s playboy. If you were lucky someone had a degenerate uncle and you got your hands on some good shit like Swank, High Society, or Club.
Free internet porn changed the game forever.
I rocked a $3,000 HP from bestbuy (gotta get that printer too!) from 1997-2004. Shit was cash.
