In 2016 it felt less like "Conservatism with a New Paint Job" but the same old bullshit underneath. There are lessons to be learned from Trumpism but even Trump didn't seem to fully grasp what he had exposed in the system. He could have literally forced the GOP to actually do anything even if it was policy in direct contradiction with its core beliefs. He could've realigned the GOP in such a way that it would've embraced the most GOP stuff on social issues and married it with practical liberal economic positions (like Healthcare). But he never had the balls or the give a shit to do it.The problem ultimately is Trump has no core beliefs beyond the Wall and Tariffs.
