Just don’t pay. I owed 20,000 because my insurance missed some simple form and wouldn’t cover my kids delivery (breach, C-Section). Total bill was $90,000 and they “reduced” it to $20,000. Wanted it paid in 10 months and wouldn’t accept less than $2000/month. Told them I couldn’t afford that and they said that’s fine it will go to collections. Got one call from collections, asking me to pay my $1,000 balance. Asked why it wasn’t $20,000 and they said it gets reduced once they get it. Told him they can reduce it to $10 and I’ll pay it. Never happened and never paid and never got another call. No judgements, no credit hit. Went and got my deviated septum repaired. Another $80,000 I didn’t pay a dime of and has disappeared. Now just had another kid and won’t pay that either. The debt just disappears after a while. If they put a judgement on me I’ll pay it eventually but already have my cars paid for and already in my 2% mortgage so no rush. So yeah not paying has worked out great for me.
