NACOGDOCHES, Texas (KTRE) - A former Nacogdoches ISD middle school teacher is going to prison for a 2023 relationship with a student despite asking for her actions to be excused.Annaleigh Andrews is accused of an inappropriate relationship with a former student.Annaleigh Andrews, 26, of Nacogdoches, was arrested on July 20, 2023, on three counts of improper relationship between educator and student, three counts of sexual assault of a child, three counts of trafficking a child to engage in sexual conduct and three counts of enticing a child with intent to commit a felony. Tuesday, she received a sentence of two years’ confinement.The former McMichael Middle School teacher began grooming the student, messaging them on Snapchat, using marijuana with them, and taking them to a home the child described as a mansion, according to a Nacogdoches district attorney’s office release.The release said the Andrews asked the child to meet with her and lie to their mother about where they were. Andrews also lied, telling the mom she took the child to work on a project. Instead, Andrews sexually assaulted the child multiple times, according to the release.On the stand, the release said Andrews asked the court to excuse her behavior, saying her academy schooling left her sheltered and unprepared for the world. She also said her actions should be treated lightly due to a recent autism diagnosis from an expert hired by the defense.420th District Judge Malcom Bales found Andrews guilty of seven of her 12 charges in Tuesday’s hearing. He gave her two sentences of two years, which are set to run concurrently.
