I'm 34, so millennial. Recovering alcoholic. I don't really remember between the ages of 16-21. There really was no limit to my drinking. At 130 pounds I could easily drink 40 ounces of rye whiskey a day.

Shit's fucking poison. Withdrawal is terrifying.

I think zoomers are extra picky about picking up cultures and traditions. Interestingly, they question the merit of EVERYTHING. Fashion, TV, music, celebrities, rules, finances etc. it’s both good and bad. So they also question drinking, party, drug culture. Without a little influence from older friends or family, they simply don’t see the benefit of drinking and drugs. They’d rather just have their vapes and energy drinks because they taste better. Beer and liquor is an acquired taste and they have no interesting in going through the break in period.
>>
>>523935936
If you want tips, I can help. I've been sober 13 years. Good work.
>>
>>523936058
But you're paying for the "experience" and "ambience"
>>
>>523936235
I hope so anon. The world has become a hell of alot more interesting, this last year alone has been crazy. Think it's about time to sober up for me and my family.
>>
>>523935429
I'm zoomzoom, and I don't drink because it makes me feel like physically sick, which is probably from the SSRIs they put all of us on. The same nerve-killing effect alcohol gives me is achievable by smoking weed, without feeling sick after.
>>
>>523936058
Also this. The cheapest drink you can get at a bar is a lite beer and it will still be $5+. MAYBE 3-4 if it’s a shit liter at happy hour. Cocktails? Lol I’m not paying $12 for a splash of cheap whiskey and a splash of cheap mixer. Not to mention tipping culture doesn’t get any more pressured than bar tips. Bartenders act like they are in trenches ducking mortar shells.

It's all due to loneliness.
No friends or dates to go to the club with? No reason to go.
>dude just pick up chicks at the bar
Doesn't happen unless you're Chad. For 90% of people, going to a bar or club alone just makes you look like an autistic creep.
>>
>>523936267
To be honest I would appreciate anything that will help. I know i drink because it's a habit. I don't fill my time with anything else. When I'm not drinking I have to just shut out myself from everyone and focus on a old video game that I've never played before to keep my mind working. It goes a million miles an hour when I'm not drinking. I know it's withdrawals that's why I'm just going to keep trying to just stay sober for a few days and give my body a chance to heal, however when the withdrawals get to bad to deal with I will drink.
>>

>>523936556
What's your average daily amount?
Have you went to the doctor for withdrawal meds?
>>
>>523936556
Not an addict, but when I take a break from beer and alcohol I just don’t buy it. The best way to start shaking a habit is to remove it from your environment. Also fill the void with something positive. Going on walks, spending time with my wife, something constructive. May not help full blown addiction, but it may help.
>>
They're all too fucking expensive
entrence to a club is an insane fee
every beer there is insanely expensive, they charge for 1 beer the same amount you'd be able to make dinner for a week

it's just not possible to pay to go to a bar on normal wages anymore, its far too expensive (unless you work in IT or medicine)
young people make min to median wages AT BEST, you only start to make lots of money in mid 30s
you have to be hitting 40 to have enough cash to attend bars and nightclubs these days
>>
Why would you, during a Republican administration
>>
>>523936771
He's going back due to withdrawal. It's not fun.
>>
>>523935429
Alcohol is only fun with other people, Gen Z has no friends and no money for clubs. Women in Gen Z on the other hand are all alcoholics because Chad buys drinks for the table.

>>
>>523936757
My current daily amount is a micky of whiskey. (375ml). I've haven't drank the last few days but today I needed it. I have talked to my doctor, we are doing a physical and that shit in January to assess where I'm at. I've asked for withdrawal help, however he is unwilling to persicribe benzos so I just figured cold turkey would be OK at the amount I'm drinking.
>>
Zoomers are smart then. Why go out to risk violence and rejection and pay a lot for it, when the choices are usually going alone (as a freak) or going with your own friend group and sticking to it (then why go out in the first place?).
>>
>oh no they're not wasting a week's pay on shitty booze at DA CLUB only to be stabbed by a nigger in the bathroom
fuck clubs. even bars are trashy but they're not turbo gay like clubs
>>
>>523936771
Agreed, I recently got a cat from my dad because he wanted another and the older one he had kept trying to attack him so it was either I took him or he went back to the adoption place so I took him and he has been nothing but a blessing for sorting my shit I guess. I've been trying to fill the habit with something else it just feels boring if it's not something I like doing, which I still barely know what that even is.
>>
>>523936967
It should be OK to cold turkey that amount. It's just going to really suck. Once you hit day 5, things will improve.

Getting sober is the easy part. Staying sober is ridiculously hard for the first year. If you believe in God, AA is good. If not, Smart Recovery is good as well.

I didn't do either. I forced myself. And believed I did have the willpower.
>>
>>523937156
I think brewery’s are also taking over. They are calmer, more comfortable and friendly, have good beers rotating, and are decently priced relative to other alcohol vendors. Only problem is people bring their damn children

>>
>>523937323
I did do detox for 9 days, actually. It was good to get away from all temptations. But then I got super paranoid due to withdrawal and left.
>>
>>523937175
It’s really hard to jump into a new hobby. Especially if you’re on a tight budget. Your motivation is at an all time low too. For me going back to school and eventually getting a part time job at the school quickly took up all my free time and it made it easier to leave my bad habits behind.
>>
>>523937219
Good to know day 5 is going to be the goal. I was just going to try and increase it by however much I could. I know I'm never going to be able resist the itch, I just have to manage it.
>>
>>523937383
I feel that. I'm kinda at rock bottom in my life so the temptations are harder to get, however not impossible. I just know I can't drink anymore if I don't want things to get worse.
>>
>>523937423
For me, the longer I went, the easier it got. Now I don't really crave much at all. Maybe once a month I'll have one, but it's easily manageable.

Just keep pushing and you'll get to the other side.

Cheap hobbies I got into when going sober:
House Plants: There's a giant community online for it and propagating your own plants is super fun
Ants: Very fun pet with very low cost. Eusocial animals are goated and so is feeding half smashed mosquitos to them.
Reading/Public Library: Where I live we actually have a big public librarie with lots of students always hanging out and learning
Fermenting: Saurkraut is good for you and it's a super fun hobby. You can make hot sauces too
Cooking: No brainer. Who doesn't like a good stew and women love it.

Bars and clubs are still packed every weekend. The vast majority are Zoomers in their early to mid 20s, with millennials in their 30s in second place.
It's the Friday night on the weekend before Christmas. There are millions of college kids on winter break and people who are back in town visiting their parents and relatives, and most of them will want to get out of the house and go out and catch up with their friends this weekend.
If you are at a bar or club and it's dead, it's because you are at the wrong place at the wrong time, because you don't have any friends or social life and therefore don't know when and where all the normal people with friends go.
>>
>>523937999
I'll look into this i haven't heard of it. I haven't been getting any sleep if I'm trying to do. Maybe 2-3 if I was really active during the day. It's all good for today at least my body will have it's need met and I'll get alot of sleep.

And a bottle of wódka on ice is some insane price even though it's some cheap-ass, horrible Bols.

Fuck this
>>
>>523938243
>Lots of bars and clubs went bankrupt, can you deny that?
Lots of bars and clubs are always going bankrupt, that has always been the case in the industry. They operate on razor thin profit margins. The average restaurant goes out of business within 6 months of opening. Bars and clubs can quickly go from the happening "in" spot that everyone wants to go to with huge line to get in, to being the completely dead place that no one goes to, or vice versa, very unpredictably with no rhyme or reason.
Pretty much every business across the board has been struggling for the last few years, but that has more to do with economic factors like inflation than fucking zoomers not going to clubs.
>>
>>523938430

>>
>>523939200
Those two things are totally unrelated. The 90's/00's push to terrify everyone about STD's as well as hookup apps promoting hypergamy fucked with relationships but the bar scene got killed by a combination of the housing crash making kids grow up wanting to save money and bars jacking up prices to try and keep customers after hookup apps killed their industry.

Not at all. It varies widely, and depends entirely on the club and type of clubbing.
There are clubs out there filled exclusively with the most sophisticated, high IQ, richest people imaginable. You've just never been in one and don't even know they exist.

Oh he is awesome. He curls up besides me each night. He loses his shit when I wake up. He loves cuddling under my chin for some reason. I've never had a cat. I wouldn't want a cuddly cat like him to go back to the adoption place.
