I was stalked by a mountain lion once. I was hiking in Northern Arizona with my brother. He had a S&W 686 on his hip and I had an SKS over my shoulder. People used to tell us it was odd to go hiking while open carrying, but it didn't feel so bad when I spotted the big cat up on a ridge watching us from some trees, following along as we went. If it had tried anything we would have blown that thing away. I think this is a fair proposition.
