Texas anon here, and I’ve heard some Mexicans/Chicanos hype out the danger of that country to the max, but others downplaying it too saying that it isn’t as bad as the former group says

Regardless, I’m never going there to verify this for myself lol

As with everything you see online, its overhyped. The cartel isn't going to be knocking on your door with a chainsaw.

It's very dangerous. You can get turned into a colander while eating tacos just because the guy next to you is in the mob.

They’ve even made hype dramas about Mexico and its cartels too

I’ve never watched this show actually, but I’ve heard it’s good. Probably not accurate though

There might only be fifty shark attack victims a year but if you act a fool, you're gonna be one of them

Ignorant gringo that has visited, but here's basically what has been explained to me:

Where I visited, was safe. Puerto Vallarta is very safe. Mazatlán is very safe. Statistically much more so than a mid-sized American city.

The difference was: Outside of the city was not safe. For burgers, this is pretty much incomprehensible. In the US, if you get in your car and leave a city, you're pretty much completely safe, your biggest threat is if your car breaks down.

Mexico, it's the opposite. A local will tell you, these are the places that it's safe to be. And you stay in those places.

The Mexican middle class, that lives in the safe areas, are actually safer and more free than the American middle class.

It's chill just dont get in the way of cartels and don't go to the hood. Mexican people are relatively respectful, Colombia on the other hand...

It's like every other latin american shithole. Stay in the tourist areas and don't deviate from there.
