These cartel guys grow up in families with 10 kids, dirt poor, with no government programs to support them. They get recruited very young (11, maybe 12 years old) and start killing people for a few pesos. Alot of them probably know how to skin farm animals so it's easy to transfer that skill to humans. They have nothing to live for and nothing to lose. They worship Jesus, the Virgin Mary, Santa Muerte, and Malverde (Saint of Narcos), basically anyone who might forgive them for what they've done. If you watch the various gore videos, you'll notice that Mexicans are usually pretty cheerful and often make fun of what they're doing when they dismember and cut off people's faces and heads. It's because they accept that they're going to die the same way and they accept it.
