I’m Dutch living in Amsterdam and I love my country and my city but I feel like a foreigner in my own country and city. 59% of the population of Amsterdam has a migration background, in half of the cafes, shops and other establishments I enter in the center of Amsterdam the employees tell me they don’t speak Dutch and ask me to switch to English, half of my coworkers don’t speak Dutch either even though some of them live here for more than enough years to learn Dutch, even when I’m just walking down the street I see that people don’t look like me and feel like I don’t belong here even though they are the foreigners, not me. I’m specifically really frustrated about the fact I have to speak a foreign language(English) in my own country and even though my English isn’t poor and my country ranks №1 amongst non-native English speakers I still don’t like having to speak a foreign language in my own country. So I wait for y’all’s opinions whether it’s over for the Netherlands or there’s still a chance this country can be saved
