When you're looking at a photo supposedly taken last year, you're not looking at anything last year, you're looking at a piece of paper or pixels on a screen. When you're looking at a star and you're supposedly seeing the star millions of years in the past, you're not actually looking at that star millions of years in the past, you're looking at the light rays that are right here right now which supposedly left the star millions of years ago but which you have no proof is the case.
