Democarcy works in groups of similar people, Democracy falls apart the larger the scale is.

Imagine voting on what movie to watch with 10 friends
You will end up watching a movie you enjoy no matter what gets picked.

Now imagine voting on what movie to watch with the whole world and you're watching a movie you hate.
But its not about movies its about the direction of travel for politics and the larger the scale the worse democracy works.

A better way of pretitent would be by county, with each county part of a large state electorate region. This would mazimize democracy.
