There was no social media, internet was very niche and harder to get into. Even well into the early 00s this was the case. You look back at old game and software devs, total nerds with autist tier interest in programming, yet they got along with people, married, had kids. What people these days do is basically give up the ability to hold on to memories, and they source it to some internet profile for public use. Their type only thrives on the internet, but fails to impress people in real life. People who can't put their phones down and just live in the moment. They need validation, and they're debilitated, even dismayed at their internet personas being tied to their real life status. Again everyone in the 90's and even 2000 did not mix the two. People sold out their social lives to social media websites, and they themselves are the content of their own embarrassment and inability to let go and live in the moment.
Socializing was the norm and to be expected. If you had difficulties socializing, like I did, life would be tough.
