I don't think anyone ever really wanted to have kids. When I was in my early 20s I don't think I could've decided on it consciously, I would've just done it if it was expected of me or seemed "normal" to do, and if it had been easy. Mates and children traditionally weren't something you planned like you have to do in the modern day, it was just something that happened along the way.
