“Populism” was never going to work. Prioritizing the appeasement of the drooling masses was always just going to be a race to the bottom. It’s time for the west to be led by non-ideological pragmatists who will completely disregard “approval ratings” and public relations bullshit, and focus strictly on fixing everything, whatever it takes. The west is so bound-up in red-tape, regulation, interest groups, unions, contrived focus-group tested communication, and other gay bureaucratic constraints that none of our countries can just do what’s necessary and take a wrecking ball to the whole system while remaining “popular”. We need a new class of Caesars who simply don’t care to play the media’s game at all.
