Is traditional road trip culture declining in America? Families used to pack into the car during their summer vacations and explore the 'highways and by-ways' of the US. Now, the roads seem to be full of foreign trucks, 'vanlife' weirdos (many of whom seem to be druggies or perverts), and other miscreants. What went wrong?

I don't understand why you would want to do this? Sit in an uncomfortable car for hours and burn a lot of gas money driving through nowhere.

Rich people just fly, poor people can't afford the gas.

Boomers had a lot of exposure to lead so retard tier shit like driving your family all day to the middle of nowhere to see the world's largest ball of string sounded like a good time to them. They are the kings and queens of useless busy work like watering lawns, washing cars, raking leaves, and hoarding shit you only use once a year like "fine china"/silverware.

Hotels all got taken over by Indians and after fent and meth small towners and highway cops got jumpy and assume anyone from out of the area is a drug dealer.

Booms are always dumbfounded if you tell them that you did nothing except relax over the weekend.

>b-but why didn't you spend hours spraying carcinogen weed killer all over your lawn like me???

it's a rural thing. they live in the middle of no where so the only entertainment they can manufacture is driving around until the parents get tired of the kids complaining

It’s a large country with lots to see. Even the flat parts have a very specific allure to seeing corn for 13 hours straight. I make a couple drives for work alone but it’s all the same.

> What Happened?

It was a combination of these factors:
> the advent of commercial credit lines; where people could easily spend money with credit cards in exchange for monthly payments
> the ease (via computer) of verifying identities cross state
> the rise in national rental car chains

But mostly:
> a dramatic decline in the cost of flying; where it's cheaper (including time) to fly to a destination and rent a car rather than to drive the whole way

Kids are stimulation addicts, and nature cannot compete with instant dopamine dumping with the press of a button. Why drive when you can sit at home and do the same? That said, I enjoy solo roadtrips. Wyoming and South Dakota were very nice. Maybe I just hate people. Also, the number of families is declining, in case you haven't noticed.

Japanese don't have the freedom that Americans have. They never had the american highway and route system that connected and entire content together at their fingertips. All they ever had is a system of trains that stop and start at predetermined destinations that are heavily controlled by a despotic government of mobsters.

But hey, atleast the trains run on time.

>raking leaves
What the fuck is up with this? Just leave them so they nourish the lawn, plus you don't have to rake it again in a week when the leaves inevitably come back. I guess that would mean they wouldn't have to spread more fertilizer all over their lawn, and we all know boomoids are terminally addicted to cancer chemicalslop.

Because you are going somewhere.. The point isnt to just drive, it's to go camping, or to a lake, or something cool. Places that you can't fly to or take a train. Road trips were core memories for me as a kid. And I had a gameboy so that kept me entertained.

Because the idea of going camping to a modern zoomer kid is like a nightmare.

The price of airfare has gone down and the opportunity cost of taking extra time off from work has gone up. Simple A.S.

people can't afford travel
travel is pointless since everything is modern boxes of the same shit nationwide
