Greenland has an INSANE amount of rare earth elements beneath the ice cap, one of the few sources still outside of Chinese control. With the right tech it could be extracted through tunneling without destroying any ecological balance Greenland provides (mainly ocean current stabilization for Northern Europe). Trump is well aware of this.
