An airplane has automatically landed itself after an inflight emergency when an “Autoland” system was activated for the first time. The Beechcraft Super King Air touched down safely at Rocky Mountain Metropolitan Airport in Broomfield, Colorado, less than a 30-minute drive northwest of Denver, on Saturday thanks to Garmin’s aircraft safety technology. The Federal Aviation Administration told multiple outlets two people were on board the twin-engine jet when the pilot lost communication with air traffic control.“An onboard emergency Autoland system was activated,” the FAA said.Garmin, known for its fitness watches, confirmed to CBS Colorado that its “Autoland” system was activated, “resulting in a successful landing.”“This was the first use of Autoland from start-to-finish in an actual emergency,” the company told multiple outlets.Garmin’s “Autoland” technology, which was released in 2019, directs the plane to a nearby airport for an emergency landing “based upon a variety of conditions, including, but not limited to, weather, terrain, approach, runway and aircraft suitability,” according to the company’s website.Buffalo River Aviation, the operators of the Beechcraft Super King Air, said in a statement to multiple outlets that the plane “experienced a rapid, uncommanded loss of pressurization,” prompting the emergency landing. There were no passengers on board, according to the charter company.“As per standard procedures, the two pilots immediately put on their oxygen masks," the company's CEO Chris Townsley said. "The aircraft, equipped with Garmin Aviation's latest Emergency Descent Mode (EDM) and Autoland systems, automatically engaged exactly as designed when the cabin altitude exceeded the prescribed safe levels.”The pilots, who Townsley says were not incapacitated as reports had suggested,>https://www.the-independent.com/news/world/americas/aviation-denver-airplane-garmin-beechcraft-autoland-b2889920.html
>>524270048The fact that air traffic control and basic flight maneuvers aren't mostly automated is stupid as fuck.
>>524270166They already are, you have to intentionally fuck it up to crash a plane.
beep boop, tick tock.
>>524270048They could do that for 40 years nowIts just not reliable system to let it take off and landPilots are there for only that and emergency situations
>>524270048>No passengers >Charter company Sounds fake and gay, paid for advertising of an intentional "emergency"
I flew at least 100 hours out of that field. The crosswinds were bonkers. Whoever sighted it belongs in jail.
>>524270048>Pay no attention to how there was an landing zone for air traffic within range when this "totally successful automated safety system" was forced into actionWait till it happens over the Atlantic and attempts to auto land right onto the ocean
>>524270432Why are you acting like "autopilot" is term from 2025Planes can do everything automatically, just not reliably90% of any give commercial flight today is on autopilot mode
>>524270048>Garmin, known for its fitness watchesThis look like a FITNESS watch to you, faggot?
>>524270382This.the FAA was seemingly surprised the thing worked so well in the real world.
>>524270508>No topical map Looks like shit
>>524270048We won't need pilots anymore soon that's for sure.
Niggas don't know about my ILS
>>524270562But they named it "Autoland"now its new thing and also a Brand
>>524270485Why are you just assuming you know the logic? ycombinator is calling you.
>>524270495Autopilot was basically cruise control. You could even land on old school autopilot by gradually changing the set speed and altitude. This is a slightly more advanced system that's supposed to automatically pick the place you land in and then self-fly and self-land to that destination. It is more advanced but I don't buy it was an organic actual emergency situation.
>>524270612>fuck fog and fuck delta niggers! It's amazing how well the voice recorder worked even during the crash.
>>524270048>Beechcraft Super King Air>twin-engine jet>Garmin>known for its fitness watchesWhat a horrible article.
>>524270897simpsons already did it
>>524270570It's all about accuracy, in the smallest possible size. Nothing else compares. Walk through a swamp during the day. Retrace your steps that night, exactly.
Airliners were using ILS to all but "hands off" in the late 1960's.In the 70's there were demonstrations of a proposed Mode IV ILS system that would, from the end of the departure runway, take off and fly to the destination and then safely land, while observing patterns etc, with no input from the pilot outside of positioning on and off the runway.
>>524271568and they still aren't landing themselves regularly in what is a very predictable and controlled situation. anyone thinking that commercial trucks will be self driven any time soon has fallen for the meme. the roads are a way more dynamic environment.
>>524270048Pilots are really only there for emergencies and weird situations. That's why airlines were willing to risk niggers and females in the cockpit - they were betting the shit wasn't gonna hit the fan. They were wrong.
>>524271117>Cat-3b certified for use in 1970sDamn, ok.
>>524270048>>524270048They were conscious but we're just pussies and didn't switch off the auto land shit >>524270166T. Zoomer that's afraid of driving and cries when he leaves the city and goes into the woods
>>524270774>why are you just...To be fair, his conjecture was insufficiently retarded to describe the expected outcomes.Instead of criticizing him, up the ante.Like, oh, attempting to land at sea level in Denver.
>>524274501dumb phonefag
>>524270048I hate RUzzIEZ but in credit to them, they could remote land (and fly) their space shuttle Buran way back in 1988.Glad Garmin finally caught up. Better late than never I guess.(Buran completed one uncrewed spaceflight in 1988, and was destroyed in 2002 due to the roof collapse of its storage hangar at Baikonur Cosmodrome).
>>524275204Further credit to them, they made a space shuttle instead of a meme platform testbed for the satellite thief (X-37).
>>524270508Based Foretrex chad
>>524270048Finally we can have female "pilots"
