If the only authority you appeal to is the Bible because you don't have church tradition to appeal to then the only way to resolve a conflict with someone who reads the bible differently is to schism. It would be like if the US government didn't have the supreme court and instead everyone had their own copy of the constitution in their pocket to debate over, you would have anarchy in the legal system. Thus protestantism is doomed to have anarchy in the church, yet somehow the church didn't have a Bible for 3 or 4 hundred years and it was far more unified in doctrine than protestantism.
