Hezbollah does not rule the country the way Hamas rules Gaza as the government officials. Hezbollah are a competing group against the Lebanese government. Lebanon has their own military that have nothing to do with hezbollah

Even during Abbasid, Seljuk, and Ottoman rule, they were given special privileges against conversion due to a ruling by Abu Bakr or Ali or whichever Caliph it was, similar to the ruling given to Jerusalem that prohibited Muslims from converting Christians inside the city.After Muslims took the land from the Eastern Romans, and later after the attempted Crusader kingdoms fell, they were isolated from the rest of Christianity in the West, they developed their own independent Church called the Maronite/Marinite Church, named after Mariam, or the Virgin Mary in English World. They are Eastern Orthodox in a liturgical sense but they unified with the Pope some time ago and are considered Eastern Catholics. Hezbollah and Muslims residing in their country and causing problems is actually a modern development. They had a decades long war fought over that exact issue. The Muslims migrating to Lebanon were Palestinians and Syrians fleeing wars, and Lebanon being a Christian country, was the only stable country around.
