The numbers on both sides are far far bigger than they mention. Have people seen the areas in that region? It looks like the moon. Its basically craters all over the places. Cities are basically Gaza all over ther place. So this is many many millions on both sides. I think more Ukrainians are dead if you count civilians because that number of civilians alone is probably millions alone.

So not only thet were wrong about the particular(those Russian fortifications being outdated and useless) but also the general(modern equipment and tactics making fortifications useless). Soon after the fiasco became evident the British military built a trench network on some of their proving grounds to I assume figure out how to actually deal with it - they got the message as well.

Russia has dug ~300k. Russia has a total of 1.5 Million military personnel and hasn't had any mobilizations or conscriptions beyond the norm. The SMO force is 300k men and volunteer only, and they're still turning away volunteers. For Russia to have burried 1.2 million men in 3 years, Russia would have to have lost 400k men per year, which is 100k more men than are even in the conflict per year.

Ukraine, meanwhile, has violated every Christmas truce and is no longer showing up to corpse exchanges. Russia meets its GC obligations to identify and handle the dead. Ukraine doesn't. Russia has frontline CLS, while Ukraine has no CLS at all and drone strikes men who surrender or retreat. Everyone with an internet connection can see these videos.

Additionally, under 400k have died or been disabled by their injuries."

The closes I could find to that is a collation of open source data you can confirm yourself regarding Ukraine. https://archive.is/qBNJnYou can google new cemeteries in Ukraine and Russia. They'll obfuscate the number of graves by publishing hectares instead. Multiply by 3k per hectare and that'll tell you the capacity of each cemetery. There used to be articles on the subject with headlines that made it clear and lists with links. They seem to be scrubbed now.
