I’m risking sounding like an old fart or loser but I feel that the holidays used to feel more warm, merry, exciting, etc. than in recent years.

What do you think? And why?

You should make a movie about how christmas was better in the 80s. Call it "A Christmas Story 4"

It doesn't have to be. We should just surround ourselves with our nostalgia and shut everything off. Grew up in the 2000s? Then make your room look like pic-related, only play 2000s games and watch 2000s media. Stop using social media. Stop paying attention to e-celeb slop. You get the picture.

Majority of homes are owned by the order generations who are to bitter and old to do anything anymore. Younger people can't afford to do it since they have less disposable income and they aren't having children. Towns and corporations have all become jewed so they barely decorate anymore. A lot of rental don't allow you putting up decorations on the outside either. Everything has become bland, gray, and jewish.

Pretty much when you start working and living on your own you see how shit the world is. I used to go to summer vacations to my parents vacation home on a lake it was a yearly ritual as a kid then when I got a job I was like "oh, I can't do that anymore......maybe for a week at most due to my responsibilities.......that part of my life is over" and it just gets worse after that

>>524309560
The thing is younger people find ways to still make these times special regardless. I have cousins who were in the balkans war as kids and they have positive nostalgia for that time.

Fixed that for you. As a kid you are naive and gullible and think they are just like us. Which they are in childhood. But after a certain point after puberty all women start believing that men are subhuman and exist to serve them. They will never see you as their equal again. Husbands are seen as a complete joke. They respect you if you are a violent drug dealer who has several felonies.

I've always had the theory that if you just physically and mentally surround yourself with your nostalgia then you would have a better peace of mind in life. Just because the years go by why do you have to change as well? I guess some people are just slaves to convenience. You need a smartphone that does everything. You need a TV that does everything. You need a high end PC. You need the newest car. Here's an idea, stop needlessly spending money and go back. You can go back to pic-related, or any era you have personal nostalgia for, physically and mentally. Your perception defines your reality. As far as you fags know I'm typing this from the past.
>>524309957

>As long as you have family that gathers around and you put lights up and a Christmas tree, then you still have a Christmas

I'm spending Christmas with my family this year but it doesn't feel exciting anymore like it was when I was a kid. Idk if its anhedonia, or just being more in-tune with reality. Like I can see my family any day of the year. It feels more like Thanksgiving 2 than Christmas now. also doesn't really snow where I live so that could be contributing to it too.
>>
>>524310268
Do many of you just not understand as you get older these feelings naturally change? I genuinely feel like this site is damaging some of you emotionally. Like I constantly see repetitive threads on all the boards talking about old events, old content creators, old stories, old memories and it becomes clear that many of you just can't move on and live to chase highs you will never get again.
>>

>only play 2000s games and watch 2000s media

>>
>>524310170
That may be true but as of recent years zoomers who were never born in the 90s or 2000s idolize those years. I think we can objectively compare modern eras regardless of nostalgia. I've seen boomers who grew up in the 70s say their favorite era was the 90s.
>>524310268
Well I mean I think it's less exciting as an adult because Christmas is just inherently exciting for children getting all sorts of presents like toys. Even back then adults would always get like one or two things. Even if it just doesn't feel the same to you, think of how lonely and depressing it would feel if you had no one at all. No family or friends around. Even if you went and hung up lights and bought yourself something, it's not Christmas without a family.
>>
>>524308779
Some years ago we had plausible deniability that 90% of the people on this planet were irredeemable niggercattle. We could carry on pretending that basically everybody was sort of the same, decent, and could get along.

Then covid happened and 9/10 revealed themselves to be retarded livestock without a shred of humanity left.

We cannot go back. There is no going back.
>>
>>524310455
>as of recent years zoomers who were never born in the 90s or 2000s idolize those years
Idolizing the past is not a new thing. We have been idolizing the 80's for 30 years and counting. Also this is completely anecdotal. I think many millennials again a generation I am apart of can't accept that younger generations are happy with what they grew up regardless how stupid it looks like to us and I am trying not to be a "get off my lawn" boomer retard towards zoomers and Gen A but I am noticing my fellow millennials are not the same
>>
>>524308779
The holidays were better decades ago because communication was harder.
"Absence makes the heart grow fonder."

It used to mean something to gather around with family. Nowadays it doesn't matter. You can reach your family in an instant, hearing their voices and seeing their faces in real time. So who cares about getting together with family. You already know what they're up to, they post about it on social media all the time.

Literally EVERY single aspect of society and culture today is worse than it was in the 2010s, which was worse than the 2000s, which was worse than the 90s, which was worse than the 80s. This has nothing to do with getting older or nostalgia. Zoomers are going to look fondly at the 2010s because it was still relatively better to the post-2020 hellscape we live in today.

Decades ago virtually everybody celebrated Christmas and all that involved like decorations, the food, the music, the ambience, the season cheer. And it was Christmas with the 'Christ' in it, not "Xmas", not "Happy Holidays", no "Happy Hanukah and Kwanzaa" because the country was still overwhelming majority White and Christian; today roughly 1/3 don't celebrate Christmas and another 1/3 do celebrate it but it's not the exact same version as we know it. And because it was a still a largely Christian nation they were still allowed to play the traditional songs in public places, like Joy to the World, Little Drummer Boy, Come All Ye Faithful, O Holy Night or even Silent Night. Go anywhere public that plays music like a supermarket or a fast food place or a big office and the only music they have is Frosty the Snowman, Santa Claus is Coming to Town, Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer and many of the modern songs like Mariah Carey's song that are only superficially about Christmas. They cannot play the classics because they might offend somebody. Modern Christmas movies remove all references to Jesus even, the moral of the story being that Santa brings presents and that's what the meaning of Christmas is. Two examples on top of my mind are Arthur Christmas replacing 'round yon virgin mother and child' verse or Christmas Chronicle walking by a church service but they're singing O Tannenbaum for some reason. Even the adult Christmas movies from decades ago like Christmas Vacation showed them singing a Christian song and the nativity scene in their home.

You’re right and based choice on the IntelliMouse. I have one for my Win98 machine (eMachines P3 with Voodoo3 and SB AWE card).

I do think there’s good modern applications and adaptations for old tech. Good example is pic rel, FIIO’s upcoming CD player. You get nice quality audio playback with various output connections (including optical), and modern convenience like USB-C + Bluetooth.

Similar to replacing original gameboys with modern IPS screens and rechargeable batteries + modern USB charging.

Equilibrium is one of my favorite movies. Kind of in a similar vein as The Matrix but less techy and more straight dystopian.

The idea is that the state has outlawed anything “artistic” or that could invoke emotions and everything is drab and brutalist. I think it’s by design, these corps going flat boring design. I think it even extends into the hyperbright LEDs everywhere instead of warm amber street lamps.

In my house I use warm lighting for most things, even my home office is 4000K max and that’s the most “white” light I use. Light (color) and sound is used to shape human behavior.

I think it’s also that Japan has a huge domestic market for most things. And people like to see and feel before they buy.

There’s also a huge second hand market for lots of things, especially appliances due to their recycling laws (which charge a considerable fee).

I love shopping here, tons of like-new used things for dirt cheap. Picked up some Sony equipment for 30% what it would cost me back in the states (assuming I could even find it).

It used to be better. No question.
Does anyone Christmas shop at malls anymore? Remember the smell? The toy stores? All the little odd shops that woild pop up before Christmas?
Little nick nacks and novelties that weren't just one in a billion options now browsable online?
Going to book stores. Doing a day long outing. Visiting friends and family, and doing nice afternoon chill sessions at your uncle's place?
The smells were different. The homes were warmly lit and colored in rich dark greens and auburn reds. The TVs were small and the whole living room wasn't oriented toward some giant nigger screen.
People weren't distracted. They weren't just itching to get back to their online habits. The kids would chatter and whisper and run off to play.
Families were bigger. Decor was busier and interesting.
If you missed it, this sounds trivial. I assure you it was not.

>online shopping changed things thats life. There are malls in Mexico and Russia that still look like that because their online shopping is limited.
>>no its niggers
>niggers existed in the 80's too when that picture was taken

It's not really niggers or online shopping. That's part of it, but most of it is a direct decision by various corporations. Even if in person retail shopping was half of what it was years ago, they could still make malls nice.

The fact is that most big malls started to die out rapidly in the early 2000s. Malls were popular in the 90s and maybe even around 2000 but by 2006 or so hardly anyone ever went to a mall unless they had to. They were largely replaced by "outdoor shopping centers" which were basically outdoor malls that were worse in every way. Like super upscale strip malls that could be somewhat walkable.

The idea of the mall was that there would be big anchor department stores that would draw you in when you needed clothes or appliances, and then you would spend time wandering the mall. The food court, the little shops, it was all designed to get you to spend more time at the mall so that you could spend more money.

That's why most malls had movie theaters and sometimes even arcades. Even teenagers making minimum wage had enough money to go have fun at the malls

Fact is that the economy really started to get fucked immediately after 9/11. That's why George W. Bush literally told people to "go to the mall" when he was asked what Americans can do to help our country in the new war on Terror. The government saw the writing on the wall then. 9/11 made me people scared to be in crowds and made people more stingy with their money. And the economy itself just got worse

No one wanted to wander around a mall and buy things for fun. These were replaced by outdoor shopping centers, where you could park more closely to the one particular store you wanted to go to, get in and out quickly, instead of wandering and spending more

Movies, video games, and animation were better in the 90s/80s than anything post early 2000s. 90s video game didn't suffer from major constant patches, glitches/errors, Day One DLC, microtransactions etc. Movies were actually movies first, with no clear bias political agenda that was clearly intended to marketed first and to drive out loyal old fans for new modern ones. Western animation actually catered to kids and wanted unique character designs that appealed to children instead of adults who want to indoctrinate children.

the holidays feel different now in part because of the constant stream of information coming from phones, computers, television, radio, and digital billboards. another factor is how divided we’ve become as a society human consciousness is sensitive to the emotional state of those around us, subtly receiving it from others even without direct interaction. as anonymity increases, that collective awareness becomes muted, and shared moments lose some of thier warmth.

You are onto something. Part of it is nostalgia, but the other part is the dilution of too many things to list here. Family, shared monoculture, etc. A lot of this is driven by corporations. Thanksgiving has been plundered with Black Friday, Cyber Monday, etc. Christmas around me is still treated reverently, but I can see it going the way of Thanksgiving in the next 10 years.

Just as there is no longer a United States, only the economic zone of America. There is no longer a Christmas only the end-of-the-year commercing season.

Just 20-25 years ago Sales were Christmas sales, Movies on tv were Christmas movies. Towns had Christmas festivals and Christmas functions. Thanks to kikes, everything has become a Winter festival or Holiday celebration. It's all under the guise of inclusiveness, but I'm sure it's their hatred of Christ seeing as how they've been popularizing the shortening to "X-mas" since the 1800s.

Kikes even Tried to Kike Charlie Brown. Look up the making of the peanuts Christmas special. The original special was supposed to be different, but they wanted to strip any mention of Christ from the script. This made Schultz so mad that he rewrote the whole script making the focal point Linus's speech in the center. Removing that bit would make the whole special unwatchable.

I'm old enough to remember in the 90s/early 2000s when black Friday was billed as the "After Thanksgiving Christmas Sale"

Now the stores are early cycling holidays. Local stores put up Christmas stuff before Halloween even got here. My local Walmart took down all the Christmas aisles and put up Valentines Day stuff nearly a week before Christmas.

Just as everything else, this part of American culture has fallen to capitalistic functionalism.

>>524310572
It's not idealization. The culture has changed. I remember singing Silent Night, and O' Little Town of Bethlehem in public school. Now the entire school system would be tarred and feathered for that.
Side Note: Merry Christmas Anons.

Everyone knows that 2026-2030 will suck hard, and Christmas 2025 had the Epstein Files dumped on it, whether that timing was subversive or not (not incriminating Massie), so every adult is aware of the pedo rings controlling the government, it darkens the holiday by proxy. And look at the big holiday movies, Avatar 3, a Zionist biography of a ping pong playing sociopath, and typical trash about a homeless buxom murderer who becomes the housemaid of an evil white male where a Mexican "chad" groundskeeper and his tortured ex wife save the day.
Israel and Ukraine wars will not cease this decade either.

The way to tell this is not subjective is to watch televised Christmas specials from the 1970s and 80s, where celebrities had a repertoire for singing and comedy, and networks spent the works on production which was the work of talented craftsman and designers, and you'd have one Hannukah joke at most.

How does the internet change how you spend time with extended families? Are you implying they are less likely to come because of zoom and facetime? They had telephones back then you know, if a family member didn’t make it they made long distance calls and passed the phone around. The internet just makes this a little fancier but it’s still the same thing and not a replacement for being there. Some autistic weirdos thought VR was going to do that (kek).

Because as you get older it turns from something fun into something you have to do. The focus used to be on you but as you get older the focus turns outward onto other people. So you on one level you enjoy it because you didn’t have to do anything and you get free shit from everyone, and on another level (when you start having to buy shit for others) you realize how materialistic it always was and you just didn’t see it. This is called “growing up” welcome to adulthood anon.

You're right but it began more than a decade ago. The last best Christmases were in the 90s. There's definitely far less red, green and white now then in the previous decades.
There's less Christmas decorations, Whites are cucks who say "Happy Holidays" to others (even Whites) for fear of offending shitskin Muslims and Jews.
Best part of the year is getting a Sears or JCPenney Christmas Catalogue and going through the video games/toys sections.

>wait to have kids, goy!

People started waiting until their 30s to have kids and now there are no more great grandparents at holidays.

18-22 is the best age to have kids because they get to grow up knowing their great grandparents and sometimes a great great grandparent
>>
Pure nostalgia and failure to launch. For example, I see a lot of millennials crying because Christmas changes once their grandparents died. Some even say there IS "more space at the table". Something missing. But that is because this society has corrupted everything. Old people die and new people should come. You should have kids. Your parents become the grandparents and you become the father figure. But sometimes It feels like we are the last men. The cycle has stopped. And now It Will be something different. The father won't become the grandfather. The son won' become the father. And there won't be any kids. It Will be just immigrants. We are the last men of history.

It was a comfy 2025 Christmas, though I don't know if we'll ever see Jizzus Christ make a triumphant return, I am happy for the many years we shared together.
I see the nostalgia and the Lamentations so I'll just point out a few nice things
> Nerd culture is practically en vogue now and techno/EDM is basically the dominant form of pop music presuming you're not into the latest hip-hop adjacent FoTM
> Retro computing is hugely popular and there are giant ecosystems of cool x86 and arm shit to fuck with
> AI can basically enable you to build any software startup with minimal coding skills and probably make decent money with nothing more than ideas
> The usual access to huge computing resources etc
> Woke culture seems on the way out
> Anime is accepted and even cool or at the very least a thriving subculture
> Metal and other previous edge case music genres are now pretty acceptable
> You can 3d print perfect copies of prototype stuff or hard to find parts in your garage for like $200
> You can get PCBs and other parts custom made for peanuts
> There is a thriving subculture and online community for just about everything

Growing up in the late 90s to 2000s if you did literally anything other than skateboard poorly, shoot hoop and listen to blink 182 you were a pariah. Nobody knew what anime was and if they did they assumed it was just jap p*do cartoons. Your choices were that set or the 8 weird kids in the corner of the lunchroom who comprised the heavy metal kids, anime nerds, and gays. Now being a queer is probably more normal than being straight. Not that I think it's a good thing, but at least you're not made nearly as miserable now if you're a queer anime fan than when I was coming up. Imagine when I was in HS: plebbit and other community based places simply didn't exist, so you'd have to find your fellow anime or tabletop fag friends in an actual physical store/library/whatever or in some crazy arcane IRC channel/BBS. Those were the hard times

EVERYBODY START CHRISTMASMAXXING IMMEDIATELY. THIS IS NOT A DRILL

Start stealing and become a real Santa this year. Every day could be Christmas day from here on. First thing you should do is quit your worthless wagie job. Don't bother applying for benefits, welfare or any other government assistance unless you really can't help yourself. I personally prefer to also GHOSTMAXX, no properties in my name, no hand outs, no benefits, no taxes, just living in the shadows of society and outside of the system as much as I can, but I digress. Simply take everything you need from big corporations, redistribute it to those in need then enjoy life. Hit their jew warehouses and megastores and become an honest Santa. Make sure to post about it and encourage more people to become Santas like you. Once enough people do this, their system collapses. Also always remember how over half the population got vaxxed and sided with the government? make them pay and enjoy it too. This is how you get back at the jews, the governments, the corporations, the normie cattle and everybody else who wronged you.

There is nothing more that jews and their wagie cattle fear than you anon becoming the real Santa Claus in this life, never forget that.

@ 35 i just got done w/a trial I sat under indictment for just under 4 years for, had to start all over after I was found not guilty. i used my bitterness and hatred to became a research agronomist who makes commodities used by the defense industry to produce lethal weapon systems. My job fills me with endless satisfaction knowing what I produce makes peoples lifes worse than mine ever was at it's lowest point.
allow your sorrow/rage/hatred to become your companion instead of you're ruler and your life will be much more palatable. it will give you strength you never knew you had.

Suicide rates cratered through the last half of the 90s and started going back up after 9/11. Anyone who tries to tell you that wasn't one of the best times to live is full of shit and deliberately trying to mislead you.

The 90's were probably the last good decade. It had a good mix of old and new world with the technology that was out at the time. People in general had a far better outlook for the future. I've always said the clothing that's worn is a pretty good metric for how life is going. In the 90's color was everywhere, you would even have 80 year olds wearing pink windbreakers, whereas today everything is either grey, white, or black. It's the same with cars, and buildings. People were far happier and far more fun.
