The reason I think Nigeria is interesting is because of the interaction between oil corporations, government and the people. It's very much a modern day version of what you had in Latin America with the banana companies and in India with The East India Company. You have rebels blowing up pipelines, and then being recruited by the oil company to guard the very same pipeline. So many things about government, corruption etc are illustrated in what's going on in Nigeria.
