I played it off and on from 2003 until 2020. it got really pozzed in the late 10s but I played it as a way of keeping in touch with my friends.games with "randoms" used to be good until dota 2, back when people used wc3banlist (picrel) and people needed to have good rep to get into games. this way even with randoms you would still be with people who would speak your language (for me, that's english), and try to win.ever since dota removed this capability with dota 2, random games end up being with a bunch of nons unless you server hop on high ping to europe. US servers are full of spicks who grief the entire game, dont speak (or when they do it's in spanish), even if you select English as the language and US servers.oh, and if people cheated, they would get hit with a ban and would need a new CD key. valve doesnt actually ban people, so now it's useless.the same thing happened with counterstrike in NA. people used to actually play together, then it turned into a hackfest and full of shitters. was nice before CS:GO/CS:2 when if someone acted like a shitter in scrims they just got banned.multiplayer games that have corpo-run servers are just awful. communities can self-police effectively, but corporate run stuff is only for profit. hackers and traders bring money into the loot box ecosystem, so they dont get banned. inb4 ESEA/FaceIt and old cevo and stuff... who tf wants to install crypto miner rootkits just to play a game.

Dota 2 is fun, I usually just random as first pick in unranked games. The problem is the pool that it chooses from seems to be smaller than the actual roster of heroes, so there are some heroes I never get to play as. Hardly anyone plays in Australia anymore (regularly 50 minute queue times) so I am stuck in SEAprison
