Sure, but there are plenty of places much less tacky and blatantly touristy to see blue water and palms than the Yucatan. Including a lot of places in Mexico.
I love traveling in MX, but I just don't see the point in flying all the way there to essentially be kept fully on rails, interact only with other tourists, and eat the most mid food on planet earth. Mid all inclusive food in Mexico kind of defeats the purpose of visiting Mexico, doesn't it? You probably have the best food in the world outside of the slop they serve at Yucatan resorts.

There's a decent amount of Mexico you can see other than the Yucatan. Unless you're actively starting shit or involved with the cartels, the worst thing that is happening to foreign tourists are cops asking for petty bribes. Cartels make too much money off tourism in MX.
