Freedom was our biggest value until we decided that our personal wants overshadowed the need for actual freedom. The government/lobbying ecosystem acted as a vehicle for making the subsidization of those wants mandatory. Freedom as americans imagine isn't true freedom. It's the freedom to be a slave to one's own instincts, the freedom to satisfy one's most unreasonable wishes at the expense of someone else, the freedom to lounge and enjoy life as you see fit while being propped up by endless subsidies that are forcibly harvested at gunpoint from those who work for a living.
